One of our users got stuck with an old 18" flat panel from Dell. When he came in this morning he could not get it to wake up, the display keeps displaying "D-SUB Power Saving Mode." I switched out monitors and the new one works fine, so no cable or vid card issues. Took the old monitor to our repair station and found that the monitor works correctly when connected via DVI, however the same "Power Saving Mode" message comes up when connected via VGA on a different machine with a brand new VGA cable. Anyone have any ideas how to break the monitor out of Power Save mode?

I had an old LCD monitor awhile ago that had a similar problem. I deducted that the VGA port on the monitor itself had gone bad, and just used the DVI port instead. You could also try a VGA to DVI adapter if your user's video card only has VGA out.

sorry for the late response but i have experienced this problem a handful of times, and each time its very frustrating. More likely than not, your hardware is all fine. I have an LG flatron monitor that i love, aside from this problem. I dont know what causes it but its random. for the longest time i would get pissed off and leave my pc for a while. when i came back eventualy it would start working again.
Im pretty sure it has to do with the pc. I was cleaning my keyboard and hitting random f keys in the process and it caused this problem to occur again. After searching around for a true answer, i could not find one.
I was able to fix the problem by disconnecting all cables, powering down all devices, removing the battery from the motherboard, clearing cmos with the jumper, then reassembling. it should work for you. just clear cmos and start her up.

And there are multiple causes of this same problem, yours isn't the only one. In my case, for example, the VGA port was simple blown and wouldn't work on any PC, much like the OP tried it on different PC's and it still didn't work.
