DSR on lower-than-native res?

Here's my scenario -

Just setting up my LG B7 OLED in the living room and making a move to couch PC gaming. TV supports 1080p@120hz and I'd like to supersample at that res. I've used CRU to get 1080p to show as my native res but when I setup my DSR factors it still bases those off 4k.

Anyone been through this before?
 
Since the default resolution is being reported via the EDID as soon as you plug in the TV, my guess is that you'd have to somehow spoof the EDID information. Perhaps by modifying the registry entry for your TV.
 
Downscaling is essentially to allow input of higher than native resoltuions, on displays which don't support them. But, your display allows input of higher than native.

Lets say for example you wanted to Supersample 1440p - set that resolution on your desktop or in the game and then adjust the image scaling in your Nvidia control panel (or in a custom profile for the game). You are now effectively downscaling 1440p, to your 1080p monitor. You don't actually need DSR to add the extra input resolution, because your display already supports it.

Not quite. In order to get 1080p @ 120hz it's going to need a custom monitor driver or something.


It might be as simple as choosing a standard VGA monitor driver and choosing a 1080p res.

Good idea, might give that a shot.

For now, at least for the games I'm using, I think SSAA via Nvidia Inspector will work. Of course using an all-encompassing DSR-like solution should prove easier but I think I can work with this for now. Still interested to see if anyone has concrete solutions for this problem, though.

Ah, most TVs don't support 120hz input. When a TV says it is 120hz or 240hz, its usually an interpolated output, from the image processor, of a 60hz input.

*Also, I misunderstood, thinking your TV's panel was 1080p.

Ok I was able to confirm that TV does in fact support 120hz input at 1080p.

Does the Nvidia control panel have a setting to use the GPU or display for scaling? try setting it to the display. You may also have to set that input to "PC" mode.
