okay i having trouble setting up my network at home, i have windstream dsl and well the only way i can get my wireless router to get a connection is to keep it dynamic and turn off NAT off the modem. but i can't access itunes store and other everything. what's another way to set up the router using PPPoE. thanks in advance

it's a cheap dynex router from best buy, only reason i have one is to cut down on wires. i'm five feet away from the router haha

Do you have a router hooked to a router if so. You need to change the Ip settings of the second router. What i mean by that is you can not have 2 routers trying to issue the same Ip addresses. If your first router is giving 192.168.1.1 ip's. You don't want your second router doing the same thing. Give me specs on your network set-up. If your using 2 routers let me know what brands they are. I could help you out more that way.

Or are you hooked from modem to router? need a little more info on your setup to figure this one out.

yeah it's hooked up as a dsl modem to router.

Dsl modem is a speedstream 4200 (from windstream)
giving an ip address of 192.168.254.1
Turned off the NAT setting on the modem
then the Router (dynex router) ip address is 192.168.2.1
set as dynamic and picks up and ip address from router and get on the internet.

but i was wondering how to set it up with PPPoE, instead of dynamic. what other settings do i have to change to make it make as PPPoE?

if you need more info just tell me??

What model is your dynex router? It may just not support pppoe.

I might just be misreading things tonight, but have you tried this:

1. Leave modem at defaults
2. Set Wireless IP different from modem if not already
3. Disable DHCP on Wireless
3. Connect wire from modem to wireless to one of the 4 ports instead of wan.

Oh, and don't forget to enable wireless security (WPA1/2 is good)

Speedstream will have a yellow sticker on the bottom..with an access code. And you'll see its web management IP address.
Plug PC into it..with IP set to obtain auto. Log into web admin
On the left side...look for either advanced..or PPP location. You'll need to type in the access code to make it past the next step.
Under PPP location..you'll see a radio button choice of 3 if I recall..select the one that says PPPoE will be done on my PC or my own router. Select that..apply...Speedstream will restart.

Unplug PC from Speedstream...plus your routers WAN/Internet port into the speedstream which is now running as just a plain DSL bridged modem (no DHCP or NAT or PPPoE on it)

Plug PC into a LAN port of your Linksys router.

Configure your Linksys router to PPPoE, enter user/pass..save...it should get the public IP. Release/renew IP on your PC to pickup correct DNS info...and you should be good to go.

If you need to change your Speedstream config down the road..since DHCH is off on it..you'll need to temporarily assign your PC a fixed IP address to log into the web admin.
