I have a DSL connection at the house and often I get pings anywhere from 50ms to 100ms for just about any server I play. For any other FPS other than CS:S, 50ms is more than adequate to have a great time, but it seems that at 50ms on CS:S you are pretty much at the "Luck of the draw" in a shootout. The Hitboxes often do not line up and I can carefully burst-fire a whole mag at a moving target that I had a 2-4 second advantage over and hit air, yet one Deagle shot from him nails me every time.

I have went over all of my config settings and I wonder if there is an optimal way to play for the High Ping Bastard such as myself?
 
Honestly I don't experiance that kind of trouble until pings of one person start to break 150+. And I say that as someone who pings below 20 normally. Don't forget that if your ping is good, and the others is bad, it can cause the same issues as if yours is bad.
 
Go into your C:\Program Files\Steam\steamapps\name\counter-strike source\cstrike\cfg folder. Copy and paste your config file. Rename it to "autoexec" and delete everything that is inside it. In the autoexec file, copy and paste these settings.

See if that helps.
 
DSL is more than adequate for CSS I only have 1.5 down 384 up and my pings stay about 30-50 on most servers. Also when I use to play I was pretty good.
 
The game does feel a bit different than CS 1.6 and other shooters. How experienced are you with the game? If you're not a very skilled player with some upper tier league experience then gunfights will be somewhat random.
 
its the net code and/or game server settings ...hearing ya tho. I am on many lately <50 and they seem to suck ass. new server corrects it everytime.
