Hi all. I'm having major frustration here as I'm trying to get my new conroe build up and running. Here are the specs:
550W Modular Power Supply (forgot the name, but it was about $100 when I got it last year)
GIGABYTE GA-965P-DS3 LGA 775 Intel P965 Express ATX Intel Motherboard (rev 2.0)
Core 2 Duo E6300
2GB mushkin(2 x 1GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) with EPP Profile Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory
This is about all I had hooked up, as my video card won't get here for a few days, and I was eager to test everything out.
So here's the order of things:
I connected everything I had, and turned on the power. As I expected, 1 long beep and 2 short beeps for no video card.
I had a old Geforce MX4400 PCI gfx card laying around, so I stuck that in a PCI slot and turned it on. It POSTed fine. My only concerns were that the cpu fan wasn't spinning (but I read it was because of an auto setting, maybe.) and the fan on the power supply wasn't spinning. I remembered that for some reason, I never have had the PSU fan connected to the motherboard. I can no longer find the manual, but I think it mentioned it didn't need it. Maybe I'm going crazy. I could feel no air flow blowing from the bottom of the PSU (there's a huge fan) so I connected that to the motherboard.
Here's where the problems began. I hit the power switch and _briefly_ saw the hdd led and power led and then nothing. Now it doesn't respond at all when i hit the power switch, unless occasionally doing that. No fans spinning, no POST, nothing. Like it's not plugged in (check it a thousand times).
I'm thinking it may be the power supply as maybe I burnt it out all those months not having the fan connected ( I did start getting blue screens of death out of nowhere when I took my old parts out), but I have no way to test this. I'm thinking the fault _may_ be with the motherboard. Any ideas??? Sorry for the long post!
