I have a gigabyte DS3 and E6400. The fani bought for my SI-128 has a three pin motherboard connection, but the motherboard has four pins.

Would it work or be bad to plug it in leaving one extra pin open(if its possible to do)?

I've wondered the exact same thing. Will the fan you bought fit on the connector???

i dont know, i dont want to try because i dont know if anything will happen. But i think it will fit with one pin open on either side.

Yeah just plug it in and power it up. You might need to set "Fan control" to "legacy" in the BIOS though. Give it a minute when you power it up, it takes a while for the 3 pin fans to start int those 4 pin connectors.

do i want the extra pin on the right or left? or does it not matter?

EDIT

It works now, i just wanted to be able to monitor the RPM in the BIOS, and now i can, i put the extra pin on the left, and it fit perfectly, almost like it is made for three or four pin connectors. I think it is made for both
