I have a maxtor one touch II that I use for school(digital filmmaking) and the other day it decided to take a dive off the desk when I was finished editing in final cut. about a 2 and a half foot fall to carpet about 10 seconds after being unmounted from the mac desktop. Now my drive runs slow, file transfers take longer and I can't edit video from it because I get dropped frames. I know maxtor(and pretty much every other company) doesn't cover damage by the user in the warranty, but I was wondering, since I can't use my warranty anyway could I just crack open the case and replace the HD, or does it sound like that was damaged too?
