Specs:
i5 2500K
Gigabyte r9 290 OC model, non-reference cooling
Asus P8Z68-V Pro
16 Gig RAM
Windows 7 64-bit
What has been done:
-Memtest 10 passes, no errors
-Tested with AMD Catalyst drivers versions (including betas) from 14.4 to 14.9.2 (latest), every time removed with DDU and freshly installed.
-Temp for GPU found to be 60 idle, 86 load.
I have a monitor via DVI-D and a TV connected to my desktop via HDMI, sometimes when I want to watch a show or a movie I use my Sony HD TV, so most of the time it's plugged-in but off.
The weird part is that the video card was running fine up to the point I installed Catalyst 14.9 then all hell broke loose.
Every single time I turned on the TV or even tried to change the TV resolution or any other TV setting under Catalyst even if the TV was turned off it would give me a BSOD.
Whocrashed said it was either ATI drivers failing, Error: MEMORY_MANAGEMENT, Error: IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL, etc... all basically underlying some sort of driver crash.
I could use the TV if I had it on before windows booted up, but same story if I turned it off then back on, I would get a BSOD.
Here is the worrisome part. On one of my testing sessions I decided to unplug the TV and it just went bonkers, artifacts, and crashes left and right. I could not even get into windows again, see pictures. It would load a garbled desktop and then a BSOD. I even had trouble getting into safe mode, but once I did I reinstalled the last stable pack (14.7 RC3).
Eventhough it runs fine most of the time now, sometimes (once every 2-3 days) it crashes while gaming giving a screen full of garbage, see pictures.
I don't know if its still some driver conflict or the card went bad. Please advice. Thank you.
