alright, so there are way too many drivers to choose from for my new sound blaster live! 5.1 sound card. there are the creative official drivers, the kx drivers, and the youp-pax drivers.
i have heard the creative drivers are really bad, so i want to use one of the suppossedly better alternatives.
i have the latest kx drivers installed now, and they work great for music, but in games (wc3 is all i've tested so far, but i've heard these drivers aren't great for gaming in general) the drivers won't accept that i only have stereo speakers or headphones and dont have central, side, and rear channels. for instance, in wc3, the only sounds i can hear are the noises generated at the edges of the screen on either side because those are given to the side channels.
the third option are the youp-pax drivers. using google i was unable to find a main website for their development (i don't even know who does the main developping of these drivers), but learned when on the kx section of the driver heaven forums that there was a youp-pax section there. so i went there and found the threads to be some of the most confusing things i've ever read. can someone please describe the general aims and quality of these drivers (gaming performance, music quality, sound quality in general)? what about the version of these drivers i should use and where to get them? and what is all this they keeping spurting out about the "New Year 2005 software package"?
i would post on driver heaven, but the forum refuses to send me activation emails for my accounts (i've tried making two now, on different email addresses, and i have not received the emails four hours later).
which driver should i be using? i don't care about recording, just sound quality and good game performance and music reproduction. i have some crappy stereo (2.0) speakers, but soon i will be using some very nice headphones (sennheiser hd 555) for almost all computer usage, the speakers reserved for watching movies/listening to music with friends etc.
