Need advice here.

Removed drivers for nvidia GTX260
Swapped cards to ATI 6950
Installed 10.12 drivers for ATI, sound but no video driver installed.
Removed via control panel
Ran and updated driver cleaner and cleaned nvidia and ATI out.
Tried 10.12 again, still no video driver
Removed, cleaned
Tried 10.11, again no video driver.

No errors on the installers, log shows that the stuff installed but it just isn't prompting to install a VIDEO driver. I was really really hoping ATI fixed their driver issues in the year or two I wouldn't use their high end stuff... Shit a driver upgrade on nvidia doesn't even prompt a restart these days, super slick.
 
Well driversweeper is up to 2.8.0 now and the online update doesn't quite get you there. It found some more stuff but still didn't change the situation.
 
I found those and tried them, unfortunately they say 10.11 in CCC info page, that doesn't sound right?
 
Did you run the driver sweeper/clean in safe mode??


When I upgraded from my 8800GT to the 5870, I had to do it on a fresh install of Win7 for it to work

No, that's right. Everyone has that issue with the 10.12a drivers
 
Yeah, ran cleaner in safe mode. At first I could only get the old driver on the shipped CD from gigabyte to see the card and it took safemode to remove that because windows was using it.

Notice the date in the CCC version... 2010/12/15.
10.12 is 12/13, 10.12a is 12/15.

(Same date shows in package version)
 
That is exactly what mine looks like, so i think it is ok.
I can't get my second monitor to show up now though. :(
 
If you installed the drivers off the AMD hotfix page, you are ok. They are based on CAT 10.11 with added 6900 support. They share very little with 10.12 other then the name.
My CCC displays the same exact information, and my 6970 runs flawlessly. I downloaded the AMD 10.12a hotfix drivers off the page that was linked a few posts up.

I uninstalled my ati drivers to try the 10.10's for the Rift Beta. Well now I can't get anything from ati to install.

I download the drivers, but no display driver will download. I downloaded the individual display driver and all it does is try to install the installation manager which does nothing.

I'm at a loss here. I've cleaned the registry out, ran driver sweeper, and I still can't get a display driver to download from Ati's website. Windows 7 downloads their generic driver for it, but I can't get CCC or the 10.12 drivers now.

Any ideas I may just be overlooking?
 
You mean you can't even download them? Have you tried a different browser?

Or they will download just not install?

I'm confused.

They download fine, but when I select the custom option the ATi Dipslay Driver isn't included in the options. If I go ahead and install the package downloaded from AMD's website when finished the only thing I have access to is the ATi error reporter. No CCC, no display driver, no nothing.

Downloaded the 10.12a hotfix and that installed the driver this time, but I have no CCC. Tried downloading just the CCC installer, but when it goes to install it tells me that CCC is already installed and just gives me the option to cancel out. Going to retry everything again and see if three times is the charm.

Third time worked. This time I redownloaded the C++ 2005 Redistributable. Worked this time, so guess that got corrupted or overwritten somehow. Guess I'll go try Rift again and see if this clears up the graphical errors I was having there.

Three driver packages, six reboots and running a third party driver cleaner in safemode a couple time is not what I call easy.

Climber: I had similar symptoms on the ones that didn't work. Error reporter and I think the sound controller showed up but no display drivers. Skipped right over them.
 
How fucking dumb are these people that they don't advertise the 12.a hotfix as THE drivers to download for their own newest video card? You would never know unless you hit up the forums.

My experience with the drivers is smooth sailing but honestly that is just beyond stupid.

This. I have a 6950 arriving tomorrow and I could not find any mention of the 10.12a drivers on the 6950 product page or on the driver download pages. I knew I needed 10.12a from reviews and such, so I Googled it and found them that way.
 
This thread inspired me to go check which drivers came on the CD with the card.
Then, I realized that someone has thrown away my XFX 6950 box! Driver discs, accessories, everything. Nice. :mad: I hate being the only packrat in an anti-packrat family.

The drivers on my CD showed 10.11 and they did install and detect the card. I thought they were old until I found out how the hotfix drivers showed up but I didn't make a note of the other versions showing, they could have been the hotfix drivers.

I just experienced that first hand, I've been in driver hell trying to get my 6950 recognized :p Thanks for the heads up [H], you guys rock :D Now installing 10.12a and all is well :)
 
I had to install each individual component to get the drivers to work and ccc going. For some reason their big package that states it has it all only installed the error reporting utility. Completely worthless package that I tried to redownload/install 3 times. When I downloaded the driver by itself and ccc by itself it worked the first time. Was so irritating. I haven't even gone to the 10.12a fix and just waiting for the 11s now.
 
Oversights like this one, can ruin what should be... a great experience, rather quickly. I know first hand. Why would they NOT let their customers know about this fix? It seems rather silly on AMD's part.

The file I downloaded that worked was named 10-12_vista64_win7_64_dd on the site. The driver date according to device manager is from 11/25/10. CCC reports it as 10.12 with date of 11/25/10 also. It's possible it is 10.12a but from everything I can find it appears to be 10.12.

Definately was a pain in the ass. If I had known there were others that worked better I would have used them. I'm hesitant to do anything now that it's working though.
