I just ordered an EVGA 6800 GT from newegg and was wondering what driver set I should be using. Are there any known issues with certain driver sets with different games and apps?

I play Flight Sim 2004, Half Life 2, Doom 3 and some older titles. Any help would be appreciated.

I'm upgrading from a 9600 pro so I'm a little out of the loop on Nvidia drivers:)

Well, there are lots of options...but your best bets are likely the 71.80 betas which seem to be trouble free for most people and preform well...OR you could always just install the last set official drivers that are posted on Nvidia's website which are also solid performers, WHQL certified, and trouble-free. They'll lack some of the features (and maybe performance) of the 7x series drivers, BUT are rock stable.

I used some of the 7x drivers and my machine (also a 6800 GT) seemed a little unstable with lock-ups and games quitting randomly so I went back to the last official set.

Stability is what I'm looking for. I imagine I'll have enough performance now to satisfy me for a little while.

Thanx for the insight

Yeah, I really haven't noticed a difference. I'm not really big on benchmarks so I don't know if they're THAT different, but considering I play games like HL2, Far-Cry, Doom, Vampire, etc. I'm not noticing any changes and I keep everything at 1280X1024 with details cranked (and AA cranked in older games).

The 7x series had some issues with colors earlier, too...but the last two revisions have fixed that supposedly. I'd guess we'll likely see some 71.xx offical drivers pretty soon, but until then, I'll stick to my games not crashing.

You pretty much hit the nail on the head, though - you've got a cream of the crop card...might as well shoot for stability as you performance will be great either way.
