I recently helped upgrade a computer for someone. They used it for a while, and didn't complain until it started blue screening, saying "Kernel_stack_inpage_error (Stop 0x00000077)". I read on some forums that it was either the OS, cables, memory, motherboard, or hard drive. I'm running Memtest86+, so far with no errors - ruling out memory for right now. I'm fairly sure it's not the hard drive, because it worked in a previous computer (SATA2 Western Digital 500Gb). I'm hoping it's not the motherboard. I tried to repair the XP Pro install and I get the error message "driver_IRQL_not_less_or_equal".

If all that wasn't confusing enough, when I plugged the memory in, the motherboard recognized the DDR2-800 as DDR2-667. Any ideas?

Thanks in advance.

P.S.: I'm new to the forums! :)

I'm going to skip all the stuff that might (but probably won't) fix your problem and go straight to the one that will: format & re-install. If you need to before you do it get a linux live CD so you can save some stuff off of the system, however at this point a fresh install is the way to go.

Your memory may be read at the wrong speed due to the FSB of the system. Depends on how the mfg reports it.

Thanks for the response. I'm in the process of installing XP on a *moment of silence* 10.2Gb 5400RPM drive

I'll tell you how it turns out.

Might the install CD be the problem?

Well, the OS installed, but that doesn't tell me much about what may be to come. I guess I'll just let him install his usual stuff on the machine and see what happens.
