Your first car should - if not a beater - at least be an older car with cheap parts and one that doesn't matter too much when it gets scratches and bruises and has cheap tires for when you clip your first couple of curbs and rip the side walls.

Ideally, the first car should also be slow and boring to drive, to give you plenty of time learning to drive responsibly before getting behind the wheel of something fast and fun.

My first car was a $3000 Mercury Sable with ~$120k miles on it. It served me well through college.

What?? Is that a generalization of younger drivers??? Of course my first car was a 93 cavalier with 240k on it but it got 33+ mpg during the 4.50 prices back in 2009. I still own cheap vehicle, because i cant afford it.....I never once hit a wall or anything else for that matter. This makes it sounds like we are all shitty drivers......

Well I never banged up my first car nor do I feel drive any safer than when I had my first car.

And obviously that statistic has more to do with those bone heads driving like stunt drivers giving a bad name to all male drivers.

Thank you I agree. The only timed i smashed my first car was when the head gasket blew and then I took a pick axe to the truck before I sold it to the junk yard.

Around here, it's pretty common to see a female teen in a brand new Escalade, texting away, while drifting into the lane to her left.

Yes same here. But what is more aggravating is people that took and PASSED drivers ED to not use turn signals, and other annoying acts, Hell because some one didnt use there left turn signal and slammed on the brakes in the middle of a busy road during a thunder storm he got rear ended. By me but it was a push like what you would feel when being towed out of a snow bank that your barely in. The shitty thing was i was 4 seconds behind but because of the amount of rain and him slamming on the brakes I barely nudge him. But he didn't have insurance and he left.

My first car I paid $211 a month for a car payment and $444 a month in insurance. I had like 5 speeding tickets and a reckless driving on my record. Seriously, if you know how to drift, then how is that reckless? I think I pay like $400 a year now for full coverage insurance.

As for male/female drivers. They are both bad drivers. Talking on the phone, texting, wearing no seat belts, tailgating and god knows what else they can think of.

I might drive fast, I might do a little drifting, but not once does my eyes leave the road. I don't answer my phone in the car. I always wear my seatbelt, as the driver or passenger, every time I get in a car. I don't tailgate. I always check the lanes, when I change lanes. Not just checking with mirrors, I actually look over to make sure other cars/motorcycles aren't there. Wish more ppl would do that, maybe these New York drivers wouldn't almost sideswipe me (fucking 4 occassions where a New York driver has almost done that to me in Maryland).

Sure, I go drifting in the mountains, where odds of hitting another car is lower than the odds of so called "safe" drivers not getting into an accident.

Been driving for 16 years, with 1 accident under my belt. Slide into a ditch, in the snow. Not much I could do, when you car has no traction and is sliding backwards.

How many of you have the same record?

First I would need a car.
Second I would need a drivers license.
Third, a computer and a piece of software is somewhat cheaper than a car, gas, insurance.

Well, I probably would if I was rich like you.

But it could also be cool to have simulators from different parts of the world, learn how to follow their laws (how the different signs look), driving left or right side, so one could practice before going to India or Zimbabwe and rent a car.

You can pick up cars on the cheap, I picked up a 99 Saturn sc1 that hit a tele pole at low speeds and went onto one side and messed up the bumper, all the broken outside panels on the passanger side got replaced and are green, the car is a tan color for $200 everything works even the aircon. That saturn gets Great gas milage and you only have to get liability over a small period of time it is cheaper that a computer.

Same here well almost i only do stupid things in the beaters. Me and friends always A. Find a road. B. a person on either end communicating on CB. C. make sure the road is clear, we have no mountans here in texas but plenty of curvey roads.

Also i have been driving for 5 years and as for wrecks, I have no tickets and the only wreck i was driving in was when i was t-boned in my nice new, To me, Chevy truck on my way to school. Now i have my "crap" DSM, i love that car to death its a 91 gst with a holset HX40 and supporting mods. If i had to guess its putting around 400-425 ish to all wheels and is a little bit of a rocket. A 99 saturn sc1 lemon and a 93 saturn sl2 gas saver.

And speaking of the beater, the afore mentioned saturn will be beaten this weekend on the dirt road not far away.

I played and loved Driver when it came out but when I saw this game at E3 I just thought "it feels generic" but they did delay it about 7 months so perhaps they polished it up a bit.

Gonna see how the reviews go.
