Driver / Update install order?

So I'm getting a new PC around Wednesday (FX-53, blah blah) and am wondering in which order the updates should be done.

I was thinking :

Install Windows
Flash Mobo BIOS
Video Card Drivers (x800 XT)
All other (sound card, etc) driver updates.
Windows Updates (SP2)

Is this how it should go? Am I missing anything?
 
The order I always use is.
Update bios
Install OS
install the latest service pack (In this case SP2)
Install the lastest chipset drivers.
Install the latest video card drivers.
Then install all other drivers.

The is the correct order to ensure that all dependencies are met. i.e. before USB 2.0 drivers can be installed you must have at least SP1 installed ( Nforce chipset drivers install the USB 2.0) and you always want the latest chipset drivers on before installing video drivers.

Makes sense, one question about chipset drivers though, what exactly are they for and where do I get them?
 
theyll be on the mobo cd, like the Via 4in1 drivers or the Nvidia Forceware package. They install chipset, AGP, IDE, ect drivers.
 
So what's the difference between that and flashing the BIOS on the mobo, wouldn't that update everything?

Will it be with the mobo or downloadable? Getting a K8N Neo2 Platinum.

Gotta get the cats done after the dx is installed. Tho I don't think it matters which comes first SP or Chipset, I mite do chipset first.
 
Joe, the BIOS is like firmware for the main board and has nothing to do with the operating system. Main board manufactures update the BIOS to fix problems and to add new CPU support or to fix other issues.

Chipset drivers enable the OS to use the main board resources to the fullest their potential and with most new main boards the OS and other hardware components will not function properly until they are loaded.

Ahhh, thanks for the clarification, I'll use that order for the install.

I reverse the order of the SP and the chipset drivers. I always thought that I wanted the latest chipset drivers installed, before the OS SP's saw the hardware.

Other that that.....just what I do.

some motherboards allow you to flash them while they are POSTing (instead of pressing DEL it's some other keypress)
you could also boot from a floppy but thats reserved for older motherboards.
 
I also think chipset drivers should be done before service pack.

so...

1) BIOS (via floppy drive)
2) OS
3) Chipset Driver
4) Service Pack(s)
5) Network Driver
6) Windows Updates
7) Video Driver
8) Sound Driver
9) All other Drivers
10) Install Programs


The reason I go with network driver very quickly is because all my other drivers ect are on my network and that you can get the windows updates afterward.
