I recently got my new rig, and it has on onboard ATi Radeon HD3200 chipset. It works well for WoW, but I would like to max out WoW and play some other games. I own a Radeon HD 4350 card, which I am about to install however I want to make sure I do it right.

First off, my OS is Vista 64-bit. I know that when I install the card, Vista will know to cancel the IGP and work with the video card, but will it know to cancel the drivers that are driving the 3200 and go get the drivers for the 4350, or do I have to uninstall the the ATi drivers, use the default VGA drviers to get myself to the 4350 drivers and then install those? Also, Blizzard Backround Downloader is running right now, so I don't want to shut off the computer just yet as it is a 4gb download >.<

4350 is barley better than a 3200, so take it back and get a real video card like a 5570 or a 5750. If you got that video card for free(own it already) I guess you can put it in and get another 15%, but that is about it, you won't be able to max out wow and you won't be able to play the latest games with it.

edit: to your question, just put it in, and go to the bios and make sure integrated is disabled. After that just install the latest drivers and it should work.
 
I'd love to get a GPU like that, sc3252 but I just don't have the cash and I am pretty certain those cards require a PSU larger than 300w or a secondary 6-pin connection. Also, don't bash the 4350 too much. It handles BF:BC2, Batman AA, COD MW2 etc pretty well. Maybe not at max settings, but I am personaly not THAT much of a graphics whore.

However, thank you for your input! It is very much appreciated!

Proceed with caution my friend. I'd advise you to first, download the newest driver and profiles from amd's website and save it on your desktop, go to device manager and right click the integrated hd3200 and choose remove, say yes when it asks to remove drivers too, say yes to reboot and mid reboot power the system down. Pop in your 4350, plug vga/dvi/hdmi (whatever)turn on the system, then go straight into the bios, make sure primary video is set to pcie and any onboard video memory or shared memory is disabled or set to the lowest possible value.

Finally boot into windows, install the latest drivers with your antivirus software disabled or turned off. Reboot and you should be okay.

It may not be so serious and I don't want to scare you but I've read and chimed in to help on many "my ATI drivers are giving me a bsod issue" that start out the way your planning on installing the card.

Then everyone says, "You should always do a clean install etc"
 
I just opened my case, and saw a nightmare. All kinds of wires and junk everywhere (worse than the normal PC would have.) So I just decided to stick with my HD 3200 onboard chip. I noticed there was a new set of drivers available so I DL/installed them...everything looks good except for one thing. My Catalyst Control Center, Display Properties (right click desktop, properties), and even Ccleaner recognize my HD 3200 chip however now when I go to canyourunit.com and pick a game (Dead Space) in this case it'll say that I can run the game but when it lists my video card it no longer says "ATi Radeon HD 3200" it says "ATI Display Adapter 0x9610". All the stats are the same but this new message has only popped up since I DL'd the newest drivers. I don't know why everything on my computer can see the card correctly but this system analyzer that used to see my chip now only sees a display adapter.

Also, I know this may be like "OMFG n00bcake" but I am just trying to learn all of this and do this right. I hope I didn't mess anything up with the new drivers. Thank you for your patience and understanding.
 
Don't be intimidated. Like Lord_Exodia said, Get the latest drivers. Uninstall your video drivers and the Catalyst Control Center. Shut down, unplug the power cord, and hit the power button to drain the power supply. Open up the box and install the 4350. Connect the monitor cable to the card. Plug in the box, restart the computer, and go directly into the bios. There should be a setting in there to disable onboard video. Do so and restart. When back into Windows, install the new downloaded drivers and viola! You're done.

Not only that, make sure and touch a metal part of the case before you handle any electronics so you ground yourself and don't zap your brand new card with static electricity. Also, if there is a switch on the back of the power supply, make sure it is in the off position.
 
Alrighty, here is an update. First, I tried to install the 4350 but there is just not enough room (there is a HUGE cluster of cables and cords in there that I can't get around to access the PCI-E port.) So, I decide to update the drivers for my IGP 3200. I do it (downloaded the CCC suite that said it INCLUDED the DISPLAY DRIVER!) and two things happen: 1) There is now an ATI logo to the left of my clock that was not there previously (lower right hand corner.) and 2) I get a message claiming that I do NOT have an ATI driver installed! This made it so I could not even open CCC.

So, with my screen under what looks like 10x magnification I make my way BACK to ATI's drivers site and down load only the display driver, NOT the CCC suite. After install all seems to be working correctly but the logo next to clock is still there (not a huge issue.), CCC look completely different, AND when I right click the logo I see 2 video cards listed. They are both a 3200 (which is strange as the 3200 in integrated.) and when I pull up menus on them the first 3200 only has the option of Rotate Display, Set Desktop Area To, and 3D settings. The second 3200 listed has only one option, which is Extend Desktop. Also, after discovering this I uninstalled ALL ATI software, reinstalled and discovered the same thing. Very, very strange.

I guess my questions are : Is this normal AND why are there 2 cards listed? It seems that the chip is working normaly WoW runs great and I have encountered no problems yet besides these anomalies that I am unfamiliar with.

Any insight on this matter would be greatly appreciated.
 
Can you show us a picture of you case? I am sure there is a way to get around all those cables, just unplug them if you can and label them if you are worried about forgetting where they go. Anyways if you are still worried just show us a picture so we can at least get an idea of your situation.

For the drivers I would uninstall(control panel) them and reinstall, make sure you get the latest off of ati.com
 
Sadly I cannot show a picture. However here is what is going on. I decided to hold off on installing the 4350 and just went with staying with the 3200. I DL the latest drivers from this website: http://sites.amd.com/us/game/downloads/Pages/integrated-xp-64.aspx and I click on the all-in-one DL which is supposed to be the catalyst control center with display drivers and everthing else. I get nothing...literally. It downloads, installs and then says I don't have a display driver!!! It was supposed to come with what I JUST downloaded!! So, I go to device manager and have windows look for drivers and it finds them and installs them, everything works great but where did CCC go? It is just gone!! What the hell? So now I have a good display driver, but I can't get CCC to work and when I try and get CCC it uninstalls my display driver and I have to go get that seperately...it is a crazy, vicious cycle. Never had these kinds of problems before...ever.
 
Have you tried booting into safe mode and using driver sweeper to all the junk before trying to install the ccc suite?
 
Try your motherboard manufacturer directly.

Also do as sc3252 said about the cables, label them, unplug them one by one, plug the card, and plug the cables back following the labels, that is a very solid recommendation.


About vidcards i took the liberty of looking around what was the very best possible upgrade for you based on your power concerns, and would like you to just keep it in mind for future reference:

That is a 4670 that ends up being 48$ after a mail-in rebate, including shipping, and would triple your 4350 while keeping power requirements low enough to not require a psu upgrade :)

1) Revdarian thank you so much for that link! That is actually a very affordable card and look nice taboot! I really appreciate your effort! Once my wife's birthday passes and I have some free cash it will be a for-sure pickup!!

2)Tosgamer, I am unfamiliar with driver sweeper. I have Vista 64bit and on my blue HP screen I have just before windows starts to load I have a few options I can try out. I will see if safemode is one of them. Is driver sweeper fairly straight forward? I really hope I don't remove something I am not supposed to and have to start over from scratch >.<

From what I have read I should just use the 3200 until I can get a big upgrade like the 4670 that Revdarian showed me. Until then maybe I can pursue overclocking this 3200. I have seen people than can get it up to 1000MHz core, but I am thinking somewhere along the lines of 750-800MHz core. However, I don't know how to enter my BIOS. There is no "Press F2 to enter BIOS" or anything. I assume HP doesn't want me messing around in there. Overclocking is also a main reason I want the Catalyst Control Center...so that I can make sure the Overclock takes affect.

I'll keep messing around and see what I can figure out. Wish me luck!
 
This is what I did when my integrated hd4200 was constantly locking up under windows 7. Like you I tried to installed the latest suite and got some message about not having ati drivers. Can't promise it will work for you but if you are out of options then its worth a try.

First download driver sweeper at http://www.guru3d.com/category/driversweeper/ . Install it. Then go to add remove programs and removed anything ati or ccc related. Then go to device manager and uninstall the drivers for the hd 3200. Reboot and keep pressing f8 to get to the advance windows boot options. Select safe mode. In safe mode start up driver sweeper. Select ati display and then hit clean. Reboot and again go into safe mode. Windows should automatically install generic vga adapter drivers. Reboot again this time into regular Windows and try installing the ccc suite.
