driver problems with 4870

I'm having problems getting the current drivers for my radeon 4870 working. Im running windows vista 64. It gives me this error message: "Setup was unable to find components that can be installed on your current hardware or software configuration. Please make sure you have the required hardware or software." This is from the catalyst 8.8 drivers off ATIs website. I'm currently using the drivers that came on the CD, 8.6 I believe. Any information would be greatly appreciated :D
 
Try uninstalling the older drivers, then go into safe mode and run a driver cleaner program like Driver Sweeper and have it clean out any leftover ATI driver files. Then install the new drivers while still in safe mode and then reboot when prompted.
