Driver keeps "Not Responding" and restarting.

So my MSI Afterburner software stopped working (beta version has a time limit on it when new versions come out) and once that happened my display driver kept crashing.

So I uninstalled Afterburner, uninstalled the AMD drivers completely (Driver Fusion), reinstalled the latest WHQL 13.4 drivers, and reinstalled Afterburner...still getting driver failed.

The card itself is fine I know, plays games effortlessly and burn-in tests fine etc...hardware isn't the issue. Also, the drivers never crash while gaming, only on desktop things like surfing the web and all that.

Any suggestions outside reinstalling Windows?

Oh also just want to say that the 7970 is AWESOME! Have mine water cooled running at 1300/1700 solid as a rock. Burns through ALL games like it's nothing!

If it crashes on your desktop at idle, I would say it's downclocking too low or undervolting too low. Check and make sure idle clocks are correct.
 
I know there are countless people complaining of issues with Driver Fusion. Stuff like it gets a little carried away and uninstalls all kinds of things that it's not supposed to including chipset drivers and all that!

I'm wondering if that's what happened here. Maybe something a little extra got uninstalled. Can you get hold of the original Driver Sweeper and clean everything out in Safe Mode then reinstall again?
 
I think it was a conflict with Afterburner.

I completely uninstalled Afterburner, uninstalled the drivers, then reinstalled everything (drivers first then Afterburner) and the problem seems to have gone away. I at least haven't had any issues in the past few days.
