I do not think my motherboard likes ATI video cards. I originally had a geForce4 and it worked fine.

Then I put in a 9800pro and it didn't work well so I reformatted to make sure there were no driver conflicts. it worked better but still had freezing issues.

Now I have an x800xl and whenever I restart my computer it always starts in 800x600 resolution. if I go into Display Properties to try and change it. I can pick any other setting. click apply. and it goes right back to 800x600. I tried changing it in ATI tools and ATI Catalyst. None work. The only solution I can find is reinstalling the drivers.

I rarely turnoff / restart my computer so it's not a HUGE issue but I would like to fix it. I've tried different catalyst versions, same results. I haven't tried Omega yet.

Any ideas?

Sounds like you have administrator/permission issues with your registry.

Is the account you're using in XP a member of the administrator group?

yes it is part of the administrator group and I am still having the issue. I have tried driver cleaners and that does not fix the problem :(
