I've recently been told by a friend that I should look into a program to clean away old drivers. Driver sweeper is no longer continued, it's now "Driver Fusion" used it, and while it detected my old drivers, in regular mode and safe mode, I would tell it to delete the old entries and they'd still sit there even after 3 different tries. I'm looking for a program to delete old drivers that WILL work for FREE cause after all, free is amazing isn't it? I've always used this forum for any questions PC wise, so what's the verdict?
 
Nowadays, I'd worry much less about driver cleanup/orhpaning -- so long as there isn't some issue you're getting during the install/uninstall process.

Though a good system-wide tool for Windows OSs is CCleaner.
 
I all ready use Ccleaner, love it for cleaning history and stuff, why not worry about driver cleaning?

Because the driver cleanup processes from the reputable manufacturers are (in general) much, much better now than the period of time that your friend is thinking of. Seriously, it's not a big deal anymore.
 
Drivers cleanup, registry cleaner, memory optimizer, all snake oil. However, one thing I do zealously is to run autoruns and disable all non-essential items. This ensures windows boot as fast as possible, and prevents related processes to run in the background and hog memory.

If you value your time, just install win7 on a ssd. Win7 really is a great os, reliable and snappy, and remains so over time.
 
If you really are obsessive about it and do not want to reinstall the OS, you can always do it manually by using an offline registry editor. Otherwise installing those programs would probably slow and screw with the computer more than leaving it alone.
 
The driver cleaner apps also have a tendency to screw up stuff more than they "fix".
 
Most of those driver cleaner programs masquerade as viruses.
 
Agree with PTNL, driver cleaning is over-rated unless you have a specific issue it's usually unwarranted.

Bad advice, skip any driver cleaners. You don't need it.
