Drive wont reformat........please help..........

hey, i just took out a 28 gig HDD from an old non-working comp and put it in my comp, so i reformated it and installed windows on it, and now i want to use my 80 gig HDD for storage and stuff and just leave the smaller one for the OS and smaller apps (such as Drivers, firefox, WMP, etc.....) so since i moved from the 80 gig one, it still has windows on it, so i tryed to reformat it by right clicking it in my computer on the other drive and doing the "reformat" thing, so it gets to lke 99% and then says "Format cannot be completed" so it didnt do anything, even all my files are still there, so how could i clear it up, could i just highlight everything in the drive and say "delete" or something else? Also, i have the bigger one set to master, but now that i will be using it for storage, do i need to switch the master/slave so that the one with windows and drivers and things will be the primary (master) or does it really matter. Thanks for any help!
 
I think you have things messed up. How did you install XP to the 28 gig drive? What I mean is did you boot from the XP CD and install it? If you left the original 80 gig drive as master your boot files will be on it and not the 28 gig slave drive. That's probably why windows wouldn't let you format it. I suspect you now have a dual boot setup. You need to set the 28 gig drive as master and reinstall windows. Disconnect the 80 gig drive until you have windows installed on the 28 gig. Then jumper it as slave and connect it back up. Copy any files you want from it then format it.
