Ok, here's a little about the system so I can explain the problem

XP2500 on an A7N8X Deluxe
500watt power supply
2 optical drives
1 ATA HD
2 ATA HDs connected to onboard SATA RAID via SATA Adapter

When the computer is running, and I reboot it, it hangs
trying to recognize the two "SATA drives". But while it's doing that, if I
hit the reset button on the case, when it boots that time everything comes up
normally.

Does this sound like my HDs are going bad?
Is it likely a cable, MB, PSU, or other problem...?

Let me also add, that the computer has been running for the past 6 months
without the side panel on. I blew the dust out a month ago, and put it back together
before company came over. According the MBM the temps inside are normal.

thanks for any help

Have you tried with just one hard drive connected? It could be that the two are having conflicts or something... Also, make sure they're set to Master.

Was this setup previously working, and cleaning out the dust broke it?

Ah. Okay. I'd be inclined to guess it's the SATA adapters acting weird. From what I understand they're inclined to do that.

Thanks,
I'll try reseating them...

Just bugs me, that it's been fine like that for 6+ months, and now it's acting buggy.
Maybe I knudged something when I put the panel back on the case.

Yeah, I know I shouldn't be running wide open, especially in my house with
two smokers and a long haired dog. Oh well....
