I just purchased a WD 250gig RE SATA drive and I think that Speed Fan (or the drive itself) is reporting incorrect temp readings.
When I first put the drive in it read 70*C while I was ghosting my OS drive to it, but I just had it sitting on the the DVD drive with an antistatic bag between them.
I figured the heat was due to no airflow under the drive.
Well, I mounted the drive and it is reading 58*C at bootup and then goes to about 65-70*C.
Now, my other drives are reading 34-38*C (total of 5 drives in the machine, it's the Net/Gaming machine in my sig) and the one that reads 38* is hotter to the touch than the WD RE which is reporting 65.
I replaced my 2 36gig SCSI cheetahs with this 250gig drive since I needed more OS space and the cheetahs ran very very hot, basically heating up the entire machine.
Anyone else have strange issues like this?
added pics of the machine I just took,
WD 250 RE is the one right above the PSU.
