Drive paint job

Painted my drives with black spray on vinyl dye...

Some tips...

1. If there are decals on the drive, start with very very light coats...too much at once will soften and somewhat distort.

2. Dont forget the volume dial!

3. Ventilate!

4. Let dry for a hour or so before installing...soft dye will take a fingerprint impression!

More tips.
1. Remove faceplate and tray front from drive. It's usually easy enough to take off.
2. Mask small LED window. I've forgotten and painted over before.
3. A sharpie on the Vol wheel works rather well.

Thought that was a given! But be very very careful not to break the delicate little snap tabs when you do like I did on my A: drive!!!!!

2. Mask small LED window. I've forgotten and painted over before.

I was gonna remove the clear plastic all together and just hotglue it back on. If you do paint over it, you can make a new on easily! Just pop the old painted one out. Then look in you blank cd-r's or dvdr's...there's usually a clear disk thats in with thenm thats used for a spacer and storage. Cut a small piece out to fit the back of the plate and hot glue or super glue the bastard on it! You can make it translucent instead of crystal clear by putting some thinner or a petroleum based product on it for a few seconds to dull it...or a million other ways...just do it before you attatch it!
