drive heads return and come back

one of my wdc drives are really fucked up.......whenever i start up my computer it always make a click noise so i know that the heads are ready but its been fucking up latey, when i start it up, the drive clicks serival times and bios doesnt pass...
it doesnt recozine in the bios...i have to reinsert the power plug and then turn it on...which is really annoying. what is wrong?
is there something wrong with the hdd? i dont want to rma because it will take long time to come back and i have alot of files oin this.
 
There are a number of things it could be. The simplest is that the particular power molex you're using on the drive is worn out or dirty. Your drive may also have bent pins in its receptacle as well. Also check your IDE cables to make sure they're secure, as it could be working loose and then getting pushed back in when you reseat the power cable. If those things don't work then the seriousness of the problem goes up significantly. Other potential problems include a failing or insufficient power supply and/or a failing drive.
