Hey all, I just came across this
https://www.seagate.com/files/www-c...dd-8tb-ds1789-5-1510DS1789-5-1510US-en_US.pdf

Which lists unrecoverable errors for the seagate NAS hard drive. This is the first time I've ever seen them actually listed. Bravo seagate for doing this!
Has anyone else come across these error rate listings before? Anyone wanna get a list of them going?

The datasheet above lists the seagate NAS hard drive line (4TB, 6TB, and 8TB) as having one unrecoverable error for every 10^15 bits read (125TB).

Holy crap. That Toshiba is listed at one error in 12.5TB of read.

With well over a decade of weekly scrubs at work (several hundred GB per month) I can say the error rate I observe is clearly not uniform in practice. Meaning don't expect an error rate of anywhere near 1 in 12.5TB for tested / working drives however for drives that are dying you can have error rates of 1 in a few GB.
