So my go to program for driver cloning is Clonezilla live cd. Easy reliable. Only now I`m having an issue with clonezilla on a laptop that from the factory has multiple paritions.

So the Source Drive has 3 paritions with a total size of 120gb. The target drive will maintain the paritions but increase the OS and user data paritions.

When I use advanced mode, and proportionally increase the drive sizes, it targets all 3 paritions which of course screws up the hdd and fails to allow the new drive to boot.

I have used Easeus Drive transfer which allows me to pick and choose which drive paritions increase, but that somehow messed up windows update.

Is their a method with Clonezilla to accomplish proprotionally increasing only the OS and User data paritions and leaving everything else intact?
 
Clone the disk as it is and resize the data partition within Windows afterwards

Tried that method, but only the parition closest to the unallocated space is available for resize. So nope

Drive transfer is what I used, and I assume they use a similar setup. Drive transfer broke Windows Update on the new clone
 
Is the drive partitioned as GPT or MBR?

So with the EaseUS software, the system boots fine, but Windows Update is screwed up? Weird.
 
Never had any issue cloning with Acronis, only issue is you need the 2016 version to clone 10.
Hopefully and only if you have a WD drive they will update the free version to 2016 soon.

That right there is why I'll never touch Acronis again... "you need the 2016 version"... aka: pointless yearly version upgrades.

Bought my copy of Macrium reflect two years ago, still works great, installed it under 7 and have gotten several free upgrades since. (that box is running 10 now)

Granted I don't use it for cloning as there's better tools out there. For that I use gparted and/or DD via a systemrescuecd disk/usb.

In my opinion it's fantastic piece of software without bloat. Does exactly what it's supposed to do and does it well. The paid workstation edition handles my backups as well.
 
So a fellow [H] member pmed me some awesome instructions (Shout out to CVNet1)

The issue with windows update still persisted. So I got fed up and searched the web, and found this useful website http://kb.macrium.com/KnowledgebaseArticle50229.aspx

Realized that my new drive is AF. So I went back to the old drive, installed the hotfix and recloned. Unfortnuately, although windows update does not state that the "updater service needed to be started" now update just gets stuck at checking for updates.

Man, has this been a pain.

I tried the Windows Update Agent, no update
Tried the Update readiness, it gets stuck at searching for updates
Tried the Update Troubleshooter, it gives me 2 different types of updates.

1) Everything is fixed besides the service registration (program run without admin)
2) Everything is fixed besides an error code. (program run with admin)

Well, now we're just in a troubleshooting phase. I found a few options that can be run down to resolve that issue, but it would be helpful to know a few things first.

1) What version of windows are you running?

2) What is your system model # (if you custom built it, then what is your motherboard Model # and/or SATA controller model # (if applicable))?

1) Vista SP2
2) extensa 4420.

Sata Controller are generic, as I was thinking maybe a controller driver might be out of date. No luck on that as its already the most updated vs.

Updates broken but in a weird way. Although it gets stuck at searching for updates, Upon restart Windows Update informed me it had a couple of new updates to install. interesting issue Lol
