if i have a sharp hole saw and a good drill, would i be able to drill into the acrylic of a case window, or will i risk breakage or other damage.

You can drill into acrylic just fine.. just go slow and don't stop once you're all the way through. Acrylic will melt a little bit due to the heat at the drill bit, and if you stop, it will harden and seal your bit into the acrylic.

sounds good. my friends dad is a hobbyist wood and metal worker, so im probably going to have him do the dirty work.

acrylic drills beautifully with a sharp tool. a good idea to prevent the melting, and improve surface finish is to blow compressed air through the flutes of the drill with an air gun to reduce material thats getting re cut, which makes the heat. Also, using a slow helix drill will signiffigantly improve your hole making ability.
