i was thinking about getting a Dremel 400 Series XPR can anyone comment on this tool, i read mixed comments on amazon.com but really dont trust them. any input would be appreciated.

considering it was the first true dremel i've purchased i'd have to say it works great. certainly blows away my store brand counterparts.

the only complaint i have relates to the locking button, from what i've seen on my store brand models and the actual dremels of old they have a steel button that clicks in place and makes it easy to remove the bits. with this one you have to apply a rather large amount of force to keep that locking button down, and if you're removing and installing new bits throughout the day that can get really annoying.

i have the dremel 400 XPR and i love it. hes right about the locking mechanism, but it never bothered my so much. The 400 XPR has incredibly power, and I've never seen it lock up, even when cutting 1/4" thick plastic (which melted) and a very thick steel case. The damn thing has quite a bit of torque, and it took some finesse and getting used to the ease at which it cuts things. I absolutely love it and would definitely reccomend it.

The hole cutter attachment is also incredible (comes with the XPR), and allows you to cut any hole size you desire.

I have it too, it is my first time with a Dremel.

I was cutting some practice holes with the reinforced cutting wheels in some aluminum and I broke 5 wheels in a row. Good thing I was wearing safty glasses! POW! All five hit me in the glasses!

Also, don't cut aluminum indoors, the tiny bits are a killer on the vacume.

I love the Dremel. :)

It's good, but I think my bushing things are going out the door, it's only like a month old. I give it a 8 out of 10...

I have the best corded model that was about before the new ones... I have to say I love my Dremel. It definitly is the tool of anyone with a hobby. It has more uses than you can shake a stick at.

I got one for Chistmas and have loved it ever since. I am glad I am not the only one that thinks the locking button could use a bit of a redesign.

the locking button doesnt bug me, i bought the #4486 Dremel Chuck and works like a charm.
i havent had the chance to use it much but within the next couple of weeks i will.

I got mine from christmas which finally got me away from my cordless multipro. Let's just say that before I had my XPR I hated dremels. Now it's the first tool I use :D

How is it for cutting fan holes in a steel case?
