Is the L1 Crazy Domain Insane package good...? I was thinking of buying it with the promo code and it comes out to like $10/year which is really good. My brother on the other hand said he doesnt know if there relyable, and said $10.. you get what you payed for..

So is Dreamhost a good domain/hosting company for me to purchase?

Depends on your hosting needs.

I've used them for about two years now, and I am very happy with their service offering and the price. Accessing their sites, especially when you add in database interaction, isn't as quite as snappy as some other sites, but the throughput for downloads is really nice, the bandwidth alloted is unbelievable, unlimited domains.. Yeah. I'd say go for it.

If you say what type of site you are intending to build, we might be able to better steer you and see if a VPS/VDS or a dedicated box would be more in line for you.

For a shared host, dreamhost can't be beat.

Dreamhost is decent, especially with promo codes that get you a year of L1 for around $22.70 (with the maximum $97 coupon of course).

However, stuff like database interaction is slow, like others have said, and for me, site loading can be a little slow. Also, whenever you make changes like username changes or email changes, it can take maybe 20 minutes to register in the system. The Dreamhost control panel is also a custom in-house panel, so it might be confusing to get used to for the first few moments.

They also really don't seem to like CPU intensive tasks of any kind (like having a moderately sized PHP forum), and they seem to overload servers with more users than they can handle.

However, they do offer unlimited hosted domains and shell access, which is great. I've never tried to see if they would really uphold their 20+ GB storage or 1+ TB transfers though.

I use two hosts, one for my main site, and the rest are on Dreamhost mostly for file serving.

I enjoy my dreamhost account plus you can buy it dirt cheap. Great bandwith and space, plus shell access. Everything I need and more.
