I am on the verge of splurging on a killer WCing system, but am a bit unsure of what to get. Its my birthday on Tuesday (Dec 6), so im gonna have some $$$ coming. All im wanting to cool for now is my Opteron 170, but i will probably cool my vid card in the future as well. I am on the list for the Apex Group Buy, but i realize that Swiftech can't possibly have the best of everything. If i were to order the parts individually from various manufacturers (rather than just Swiftech), what would be the best setup i could put together for under $300 max?

CPU: Im guessing either the Storm or the Apogee or the Dtek MP-05? Any other suggestions?

Pump: Im would guess the Swiftech MCP655 or the Danger Den D5? Again, open to suggestions...

Radiator: Im completely clueless here. 2X120mm would be the largest i would do, and a radbox would be a probable must.

Res: Im not sure what would be best, one that fits in a single 5.25" drive bay, or one that i can mount anywhere in the case. Any suggestions?

Additive: Im a noob, but im guessing MCT5 would be best for non conductive purposes?

Tubing: No clue...

Clamps: From my understanding, metal worm clamps are best right?



Would it be worth it for me to do it this way, or would the Apex Kit give me a better performer for the money?
 
for a block im a storm fan, if i had to have a different block i would go with a danger den TDX
a pump i would use one of the two you listed, same pump so it dosent matter
the rad. depends on your setup, i wont use anything smaller than a 120x2 or a couple single 120's
the res also depends upon your application, i like the swiftech mini res or the new little guy from danger den or if you are cramped for space put a T line in.
as for the tubing: tygon
for the coolant its pretty much up to you, how much you wanna spend and what color you want, just look around on modding sites
for clamps ive been using zip ties for a while now, no leaks just whatever you feel comfortable using

i like building my setups from scratch because i can configure it any way i need whatever blocks i want plus i like putting it all together when it gets here :p
 
tubing... dont go with tygon, too expensive. I like MasterKleer from www.mcmaster.com . only like $0.41 a foot which is hella cheap compared to tygon.

Liquid... you only need non-conductive stuff if you have leaks. If you do it right, you wont have leaks. I just run distilled + antifreeze.

clamps... worms are the surest, zip ties work, and if you feel like spending a but-load of cash and going with small tubing you can pick up compression fittigns or quick-connect fittings.

radiator... dangerden.com has some pretty sweet deals goin on with the Black Ice pro series of radiators these days, check it out.

Pump and Water Block... danger den has good deals on that pump with the TDX (not QUITE as good as the storm). But if you want the most performance, go with the storm.

Since the apex kit comes with the apogee now... I'd buy the parts individually.

So, say:

TDX w/ D5: $110
Black Ice Pro 2: $36
5.25" HDPE res: $18.00
Shipping for stuff from DD: $8
tubing: 8 bux after shipping from mcmaster
clamps, water, anti-freeze: whatver wally-world charges these days, less than 20 probly

so, under 200 bux to do the CPU., add in ~50 for the graphics card.
 
tygon is the SHIZNIT!!. If you can afford it get tygon. You will love how it DOESN'T kink like pvc and vinyl tubing. I stole some B-44-4x from work, i think its metric though cause it has HARD as HELL to getit over my 3/8 fittings. Anyways. this stuff is AMAZING!! its got like a 1" to 3/4" bend radius. Its AWESOME. So, go tygon if you want zero kinks and great manuverability. (sp?)
 
Aside from the fact that masterkleer is basicly the same stuff as tygon (which is a PVC tubing)... except not rated for food/beverage/chemical... but whatever.

Also I'm not much of a fan for aquacomputer, something about 1/4" and 3/8"ID tubing being small and all they're 90degree bends.

I purchased all this stuff from Franz Obendorfer at IT-Trade and it was only 25 Euro's for shipping charges. So like I said it really depends on where you buy it and IT-Trade's prices were the ones listed in red. :) The full color boxes are normally what they ship Aquatubes and waterblocks in.

No just send an e-mail to: Verkauf@IT-Trade.at with a list of what you want and Franz will send you back an invoice. If you go to the AC site, click on the British flag, and log in as a USA customer it will give you the AC prices without 16% VAT. These are the prices that IT-Trade sells at. WHAT PUMP?!?!?! :confused: They have that cool little 600 with the mini piggyback res and that looks SWEET, but I'm not sure if it has the umph for my loop or not.

That 12v 1046 worth it? I'd actually PREFER to go with a pump that runs on it's own outlet though. I don't want to tax my 500Watt Fortran anymore than I have too.

2nd.. wth size tube do I get? I saw fittings of 1/8 and 1/4 so I went all 1/4 Plug and Cool fittings. Which tubing do I need? This stuff stiff? I'm used to 1/2"OD Tygon. If it's stiff I might buy some extra fittings to get my desired layout.
 
I would get the Aquastream pump as it has a lot of advantages in an Aqua Computer system. First of all it runs like a stock Eheim 1046 and it can be OC'd (so to speak) to increase flow to a tad over the flow of the Eheim 1048. Also the version 3.5 controller (current hardware/firmware) will allow you limited OC capability. If you happen to have an Aquaero or a Multiswitch then you can hook the Aquastream controller directly to those pieces of hardware anbd control it by use of the Aquasuite control software. The Aquastream takes up a whopping 5 to 7 watts of power. :D

What size tubing you decide to run will dictate what fittings you will need. Most of us AC addicts ;) just go with the 6mm ID tubing as we don't see a lot of difference in going to the bigger tube sizes. Also if you use a 6mm tube ID then there are no interesting issues in setting it up. But again this all depends on the equipment you choose so please tell us what you want and then we can go from there. BTW, do you want clear or black tubing?
