dramless drives ok?

Is the evo 990 plus a good dramless drive? Will I notice a difference in win11 between having dram on a ssd vs not?
 
It has an SLC cache at least. It's the drives that lack both a DRAM and a SLC cache that you have to worry about, especially QLC drives. I still would not beat on it with a super write-intensive workload if you can help it.
 
With DRAM less drives does it not help to over provision a bit extra as the controller adds that to the "SLC" cache? I think I remember reading that back when they came out.

I still over provision my non Optane SSDs anyway. It's how I roll.
 
It's always a safe bet to overprovision 10%, but it doesn't matter as much until the drive is closer to full. DRAMless is fine for everyday use. You only want a SLC cache if your're doing video encoding and a few other productivity tasks.
