My mod begins here. I wanted to breathe life back into my aging Dragon, so I decided to mod it! Here are some pics to get started I'll add more as the project continues.

I decided to increase the cooling potienal by adding a 120 mm fan to the front instead of the 80mm fan it had stock. to do this i had to remove the 2nd hdd cage. This was fine for me.

I marked the circle i was about to cut.

I cut out with 80 grill it had at first

The hole came out slighty too big

are you keeping the 80mm fans in the back or are you changing those to 120mm as well?

Interesting project so far. Looks like you managed to get a pretty clean cut there. Did you do it with a dremel?

Yeah, I decided to keep the back, because a 120mm fan won't fit without taking out some metal.

Si.

Also note: The insides are getting teh painted, so expect pictures tonight or tommorow

You could put two 92MM fans or those 90 in 80mm frames that one guys using in his mod.

i did the same thing, just a heads up you might wanna install a filter (just a very light one) to reduce dust, it about doubles the amount of dust your gonna get in your case. I have mine on the floor with a hairy dog so that might just be me... my .02

Nice keeping track of this one. I have the exact same case that I am currently working on. My question is that when you added the 120mm fan in front did you remove the second set of drive bays? Mine has 2 sets and couldnt tell from you other pics. Once I get mine going again, its just sitting in the shed primered white, I will start a log. Also how hard was it to drill out all the rivets? And are you going to re-rivet everything back on or just use thumbscrews?

He said he removed the lower drive cage. I did that much and added a 120mm in front also when I had my Dragon watercooled, assloads more dust FYI.

Duh was looking right at the post when I was typing mine. And thanks to the ^^^ poster. I will definitely rethink the whole swapping of 2 80s for a 120.

Dont know if anyone else has heard this but somewhere I remember hearing that if you do your primer/base coat in white, that its supposed to give your end color more brilliance? Dont know how true that is but I am trying it out. Also I am wet sanding EVERYTHING. I want this bad boy to look like a freakin mirror when Im done with it.

I like the dragon cases. What color you plan for the outside?

subscirbed :)

Honestly I don't know yet. I'm going back to school on monday, so I'm not gonna have a chance to paint it soon, so that gives me more time to choose. what do you think will look good?

As much as I've seen it done before, the idea of a mirror black outside with a flame red interior always looks hot to me. "black dragon with flaming innards" ya know. that kinda thing. Just my .02

Im thinking of doing the same thing the ^^^ posters said. But for the black I might go with a good mirror black and then a metallic fire engine red inside. Its hard to decide on the case colors, thats for damn sure. I was also thinking of a metallic blue and mirror black but dont know which I like better.

Theres another log somewhere in here that had a guy that did his interior flat black. I must say that it looks like complete ASS to me. I want mine to be nice and shiny, like a freakin mirror. Anyone can paint something flat black, (grabs rattle can, sprays something with flat black paint and VIOLA!!! Im a master modder!) Yeah right, it takes a bit more than that. If you can get a truly nice mirror like finish on you computer case then you have become a "decent" modder. Anyone can slap a coat of paint on a case and call it good. Just my .02c

Update, or lack of one. I've been lazy lately, school started again. >.< But I have decided to paint the outside mirror black like some suggested. looking into some lights and shit like that. i forgot to paint the hdd cage and when i put it in the case it looked like shit. i'll get around to this and the outside soon enough. Hopefully I'll have some pics before teh week is over.

ps. can i get a bump every once in while, cmon guys.

The Dragon needs no life breathed back into it, it is possibly the most perfect case ever made as far as I am concerned, looks good, functional, not too expensive, solid cooling and expansion potential...

What about the Chieftec Matrix series? I love mine, same as the Dragon but with an extra HDD cage and a different front bezel.

i actually like the deeper red on the hdd cage. Normally i wouldnt but this makes it unique and since your project is based on dragons thats kinda like the inside of a dragon..i guess  you get the point lol. nice so far. its a shame you didnt cut off the grills in the back before you painted but it still looks nice so far.

teh dragons have both hdd cages, i just took mine off to put a 120. My dragon had 2 usb and a firewire in teh front also and I'm painting the outside of the case tommorow so yeah, the project is moving along. ^.0

I'm not so sure about the darker red. Personally, I'd paint it to match.

And, though black on the outside would look cool, I think the red interior with a dark blue (like stock except with more shine) would've looked great.

Why are you bumping your own thread?

Do you have a tripod? Or maybe use the flash on some of your pictures. It will help them be less blurry.

cause i'm at school and bored. and yeah i dont have a tripod, and teh flash makes the case colors look weird, but the rest of my pics aren't as blury. >.<

love the colors, but bluuuuurrryyyyy! other than that, kick ass. looking shakly good

Im doing the same thing to my Chieftec Dragon. Havent really decided on colors yet and got a few things that I am gonna do differently. So when are the new pics coming?

I have a dragon right now and I am thinking about getting a full sized server dragon to go all out on mod, what I would do (sorry this is a little late in the game for you) is cut out the fan grills in the back and use 92mm's instead of using those plastic clips with a fan grill, thats what I would like to do.

whoa! im dizzy, those pics are waaaaay to blurry....lol, but looks good so far...wel at least what i can see of it :p
