So I am going through DAO and I am wondering if any of the DLC is worth it...What do you guys think? How much does it add to the game in terms of play time? DAO is so good for a modern rpg, i dont want it to end! What a shame what they did to DA2...

If you happen to have a Rogue, the Liliana side-quest can net you the best armor in the whole game. It's amusing for the "power gamer" factor, but it's not all that long - maybe 2 hours worth if you do everything.

Stone Prisoner gives you one of the best characters in the game, Shale. It works well as a tank character and is funny too. You get about 2 side quests out of this.

Warden's Keep gets you a box where you can store your junk. It's a quest mission. Completing it gets you the box.

The others aren’t that special IMO. You might get a cool weapon or armor but not worth the $$$ if you ask me. They add little to the story too.

You can get the storage box from an official mod.

Darkspawn chronicles was fun... and I agree with above, shale is awesome to have .. she provides some of the best comedy interaction between npc's.

And don't forget Awakening....

Really, the $30 price for ultimate edition is worth it... even more so if you get it on sale for $10-15

Do you happen to have Awakenings? That's the full-on expansion pack pseudo-sequel.
Amazon has it for something like $10, and it's definitely worth that much. It's about 1/4 of the length of the full game.

tho on the other hand.. even without DLC the game has good replayability, i've gone through 3 times... first time being nice... second time being an ass... and third time just with the goal of becoming king.

i think all of the dlc for dragon age is great frist time you play them, shale is just bad ass she is so funny at times lol the golem dlc is dam hard but very fun

get the ultimate edition if you can it is well worth it

The DLCs are interesting in terms of added content, but I don't really like any of the items, Shale as a combat character, or any other mechanics which help boost the player (eg. the item leveling trick). They all seem too strong in stats or look out of place, and I ended up just leaving everything in the chest at Warden's Keep.

To me it seems like the game was balanced and designed around the base items in the game, and not all the DLC addons. For instance if you use the item leveling trick, you can get 3 slot items that shouldn't have, which are more powerful than the "uniques" you find during the game. With the Blood Dragon armor you get one of the highest stat armors in the game very early on, and it also looks out of place in my opinion. Those are just some examples.

I agree that DLC items are often more powerful than the game's default items, however that can also be part of the charm. You get to feel a little more badass with your character for your hard earned dollars, which can be a lot of fun. Plus you can always crank the difficulty level to combat it, which helps.

Personally I have all of the DLC and enjoy them all.

If you want your character to feel powerful, it's more rewarding to mod or cheat some extra skills and stats on it ... and take a vow against using potions.

Not for me, modding might as well be using a trainer and there's zero reward for that IMO, I like to keep it all "official". That is just my opinion though. I have friends who enjoy playing games on god mode on easy difficulty from beginning to end just to see the story unfold.

stone prisoner was free for me, code came with the game, didn't pay extra or pre order either

DLC was iffy for me. I don't like how game breaking it is on new characters, some of the reward starting equipment is unbelievably good and/or sells for exorbitant amounts of gold. The feastday DLCs basically trash the game's relationship mechanic—I remember gifting one of those as my first character without knowing what they did, only to have someone's like meter get pegged to 100 at a very early stage in the game. Awakening also screamed that it was a rush job, and hinted a little as to where things were headed in DA2 (downhill).
