I decided to give Dr. DivX a ride, thanks to their trial, and alas it looks like it isn't going to work for me. I ripped my Vanilla Sky DVD (which I still haven't watched) with DVD Decrypter, and used the resulting VOB files as input into Dr. DivX. I can get through all of the setup steps, but when I hit the button to begin encoding, I get the beginnings of the histogram and then nothing--the PC locks up.

This is on a very fresh install of Windows XP Professional with SP2, very little else on the system except the AutoGK+ suite (which I also tried, and had some success with, before my PC spontaneously rebooted because of some driver error--I still need to track that down).

Any thoughts? Where would I even begin to troubleshoot this problem?

Well, it seems that AutoGK+ does the same thing, locking up a while into the procedure. I'm going to see if I can figure this one out by running some stress tests on the PC--Prime95 for example--but does anyone have any thoughts? I'd take any and all advice!
