I just set up my new comp and it runs beautifully, but i can't seem to download drivers/AIM/firefox or any sort of updates for anything. There is always some sort of error message that pops up at the end or in the middle of each download. One of my freinds said it could be some sort of incompatibility between programs designed for 32-bits and my 64-bit processor (i run an AMD 64 x2 3800+)? I used my freinds corporate edition windows for the OS. Any suggestions as to what i should do?

Good point about tne NVIDIA Firewall. Messed me up with an nForce3 chipset so I'd uninstalled it completely.
There's another thing that may mess up downloads and Internet browsing in general, Windows Messenger! You may want to try this; In your IE browser, go to Tools>Manage Add-ons...>Windows Messenger and select it. Now at the bottom left, under "Settings", mark the radio button that says "Disable" and click OK. Now try to download something again. If you really need Messenger for some reason, you can re-enable it just as easilly. I've found that Messenger can really mess things up and I go even further and remove it from my computer and disable it in Administrative Tools too but if it's causing the problem this should be a quick way to find out.
EDIT: you shouldn't have to reformat to remove NVIDIA Firewall, just go to Add/Remove Programs>NVIDIA and choose the Firewall for removal, leaving all other NVIDIA drivers there. You may have to reboot afterwards, can't remember at the moment.

.Seems strange that you're getting the problem while downloading; you'd think, in that case, you would have the same problem with downloading anything since I didn't think that windows analyzed the contents of the data-packets until the download completed (I thought that they're stored as generic temp files while being downloaded; so I don't get how windows would know that it's a driver/AIM/firefox file until after being downloaded).
