Downloading from microsoft.com problem

Ok here's the deal. i'm having trouble downloading ANYTHING from microsoft's website.

i can connect to their website just fine, but when i try to download any application or update by clicking on a link, well i get a "cannot find server" error.

i'm running vista 32bit, with no special bells or whistles. i just want to know if this is some sort of setting or restriction on my computer, or our wireless network settings. because this is just annoying me to death.
