Currently was only folding with 1 9800GTX, bought another 9800GTX+ for another system but currently waiting for the motherboard to arrive so I stuck it in my main desktop.

My trusty old ABIT IP35-Pro's second PCIe (1.0 lol) x16 slot is only x4 electrical, so I was weary of the performance hit.

I was using the console client before but reading the guide for multi-gpu it looked like I need the systray client. Followed the guide and everything seems to be running good.

Any way, here some pics. 'cause personally, I love looking at pictures of gear.

A little worried about my Antec earthwatts 500w PSU, but, whatever.

Always good to wake up to computer pr0n in the morning.

Fold on!

That PSU will hold fine, Ive had dual 8800 GTX's and then Dual GTX 260's on a generic rosewill 525, your psu is much better, have no fear

Nice...what type of CPU do you have? Maybe you could fold on that too?

Intel Core 2 Duo E6400 (Dual Core, stock 2.13GHz, OC'd to 3.2GHz, 2MB L2) (The E6600, and higher CPU's were out at the same time, had a higher multiplier and 4MB L2, but were $$$ more)

I've tried the uniprocessor client before, but the PPD was low enough for me to give up on it. I'd use the SMP client if I messed around with it enough, but it's just too confusing I think. This would get around 2k PPD you think?

Eh, you'd be so close I'd just stick with the GPU clients. What you gain in SMP you'd lose in GPU, or more

I would just stay how you are, you'll get a more responsive system too

kk.

Yeah @ the responsiveness, I still go over to this computer for random web page checking every hour or so. Having these two clients open uses 7%-30% cpu it seems, 400-600MB ram. Browsing the web is already hampered by the GPU's, but it's more visual than actual responsiveness.

People are too worried about PCI-E bandwidth. Not that much data is sent across the bus when folding.. only get a noticeable hit when using PCI-E 1.0 x2 slot or PCI-E gen 2.0 x1 slot. Even then it's only about 10-15% depending on the WU

I agree, about the uni client...not worth it. I just retired a C2D E6420 but it would make about 1200-1600 ppd using a notfred's vm. The Windows SMP client would make 900-1100 ppd which is not really ideal either. The A3 core does not well on dual core cpu's. You won't loose much by not running your cpu but if you're after extra points you can for sure do it.

If it's extra points you want, I'd lock the GPU's to first core, uni on second. Only way you'll boost points without losing elsewhere, and you'll still keep a pretty responsive rig

you won't gain much but that's about your only option

Yeah, 1k ppd is... not enough imho. But thanks for the info. I have a PS3 I've cranked a few WU's from, but at 900-1000ppd and the fact that consoles have a tendency to get warm/break... rather would leave that for gaming only.

Was at 13k ppd last two WU's ago (two 6k+ish projects at the same time!)

Two P10108 projects right now, the 9800GTX+ (same shaders, faster core) but in the 4x slot is a good 400ppd ahead the 9800GTX.

*looks at my x1 slot and ponders*

heheh
