dothans for a gaming rig

why dont more ppl run dothans, im gonna wc a dothan for my next setup, aim for 2.8 ghz with a 730J, going to use the ct-478 adapter and a asus mobo of course, p4 mobo and cpu are going back to the original owner for repair(caps poped) water coolings going to be a bit extreme for a dothan probably, but i certainly wont have to worry about tempratures will i :p

i was originaly planning on doing a 3800 X2, and upgrading to a pci-e mobo, but a full dothan setup will probably cost me $300 total compared to about $600-700 and i will be able to get nice performance at 900 or so mhz fsb
 
i guess not many ppl have knowledge on them like how to set em up and such.i am a proud owner of a PM 2.0 ghz. it pretty good but it gets a really bad time on super PI . owell good luck.
 
Don't forget that the CT-479 only works with S478 motherboards, so, more likely, you are stuck with AGP. That might be a reason why people do not jump on Dothan..

a 1.7 at 2.6 ghz(typical oc) is better then a fx-55...

pci-express dothan mobos exists, pci express asus socket 478 mobos exist
 
Are there any board with a Socket 479 socket on them, or does everyone still need to use an adapter? If the latter is true, I can understand people not wanting to use them because it would not allow them to use whatever cooler they want.

you can do both, and cooling isnt a issue for me, i use water cooling so 'making it work' is easy, especially since you can trim down the leads and jumpers and solder them, people get phase blocks on them like that all the time


cant beat my plan, its going to cost me $300 total since im sending the mobo and cpu back to my friend, who is paying me $300 for them back, its going to be a free upgrade :D too bad water cooling is completely useless for dothans, at least its silent lol

he said hes got p4c800-e and dothans laying around his house so hes gonna go to frys pick up a adapter and ship it all to me, hes going to send me a dothan thats proven to oc nice, hes got some pretty nice dothan ocs, 260 fsb :eek:
