As a lame sidenote, the game refuses to run if you have CloneCD installed, even if no clonecd process is running in the background.

just played multi, its awesome. super intense like hte original two doom games. like you are hunting the opponent! :D :D :D

Wow - you have basically the same spec's as me so I'm very excited to hear what you are running it at. Are you turning on the AA and AF in the game menu, or the nvidia control panel?

Everything was set in NV control panel.

For multiplayer i need to turn off the AA for it to be smooth enough.

That looks great. I'm going to wait for a demo though before I buy it.

Same with me... that is one whole days worth of work! :D

well people who actually game are not THAT impressed after the first hour....gets old real quick i am hearing...

Wow. Simply put, wow. From trailers and video’s I knew the game was going to look and run good, but this is astounding. This is my first post :) ...

not really, its the best fps i've played since quake1, owns halo and half life1 for sure. Its the first fps to give me that adrenaline rush in a long time. I have to go to sleep before i play some more tho :)

Did the game live up to it's expectations for being an incredibly scary game?

Bored after the first hour? No way. The story is just getting going. It is without a doubt scary....

Hungry anyone?

Nah 2xAA/8xAF @ High Quality 1600x1200 is about all my rig can handle smoothly.

The game is definately not boring - if anything, I'd say that it manages to completely unnerve the most staunch FPS players... I can handle just about anything, but this game genuinely freaks me out - so much so, that I can't play it for extremely long stretches.

The only time I felt half-way comfortable was when the little sentry thingy was helping me - with that in mind, it's obvious that a co-op mode would completely ruined the game... so I'm thankful that it wasn't included, at least at first. While yes, it would be fun, the game begs to be played alone one time through, at minimum.

The multiplayer is pretty fun - had a little LAN party action in my apartment and we had some fun. My roommates had never really played straight up deathmatch, so their comments included "I like UT2004 better" and "Is this really it?". I was speechless. I love the MP so far. The maps are well designed and make good use of the engine's capabilities.

I remember playing Doom on lan with my father. That was big stuff then. It is about time a game come out with a more personal setting for small lan parties. The market is over-run with games featuring huge maps and online play. It is about d@mn time a game did something more personal. Rock on ID

The single player is awesome. I can not play long stretches either. I have played many scary games with no problem. This no doubt has me on edge. Well worth the wait and price

Why are you always trying to down play the game?

DOOM3

A shot at 16x12 2x aa....simply incredible! Looks lighter and better in game than this screenie, which is sorta dark.

Two questions:
1. What other installed programs does Doom3 not like?
2. Is it really so dark you can't tell where you're going or are there still enough clues for direction?

Also, I cut my FPS teeth on Doom and Doom2. No waiting for the demo on this one, but I may not actually get the game for a month or two. I'll try it at 1280x1024 with 2xAA/4xAF. I wonder if my Dragonslayer rig can handle that smoothly?

I can't wait til I encounter a cacomb demon.

/me plays at 1024x768 High with 4x aa and it's extremely smooth. I'm impressed with the way id did this engine.

The lighting in this game is freakin awesome. Everything casts shadows that move (heat effects from flames, fans in the ceiling, moving around). There have been several times when I was just completely startled. I mean, you go into a game like this expecting everything to go wrong...and it delivers.

Excellent game so far, and nice SS's
