So we have seen the fancy video of the GTX 1080 running the Vulkan API.

The obvious question is: When will we see a release of the Vulkan API for AMD cards?

Thx.

My guess?

Is that since Id were all 'buddy buddy' with Nvidia, The vulkan API will come out...

Soon if it helps both AMD and Nividia cards perform better, or if it helps Nvidia more than AMD..

In a few years if they find that only AMD cards benefit, or benefit MORE than Nvidia.

Vulkan API has been out in the AMD drivers for quite awhile. Since February at least. I've played The Talos Principle in the Vulkan API previously, and last night I was playing Dota 2 using the Vulkan API. The game Doom from what I understand doesn't support it yet. Unless something changed recently. :)

No change atm. Doom doesn't support the Vulkan AI at this time. Hopefully soon though.

700$ GPU recommended.
#pcmasterrace

I understand why you say this, you mean does that piece of crap Doom really need all that graphical processing power to be played ;) Is it just badly programmed game :)
And I would like to counter your argument with when Battlefield 4 came out for Mantle , people laughed at Mantle because guess what Mantle was slower then DX11 for high end PC.
On the other hand it ran like a champ in Ultra on my Phenom II 4 core with a R9 290x.

These advances for the PC will come at a weird pace where with consoles it seems you are getting the best bang for your buck since you get decent performance at the start of the cycle and at the end of the console cycle performance would have increased over the 1st instalment of the same game.

There are some things going on and most games they are not written for a low level API but rather ported and when that changes we will see another leap in performance in the same manner described before where the PC will take some years to get more cpu cores involved with higher batch count games that will change gaming.

Tried Vulkan DOTA 2 for fun on a 280x and it works great at 1080 & 1440. Extremely smooth, and maybe a tad more responsive.
