I don't have the game yet but I'm curious how people with 9800 pro's are doing. Let's post some fps's. I promise to put mine up when I get the game. ;)

1024 x 768 max detail no aa, no af. I dont know the fps, but it never becomes unplayable. Rig in sig

I softmodded a Powercolor 9800SE to a 9800 PRO using the latest Omega drivers. I'm getting 34 fps in the timedemo on the 2nd and 3rd runs. That's at 1024x768 at high quality settings.

I cant install ATI's beta release 4.9 because it won't open the 4 pipelines that the SE normally closes. Once the new Omega's are leased using the 4.9 as a base, I'm hoping to gain a few more FPS. I here there are a couple tweeks from the console bar that will help as well.

Here's my result with a stock 9800se (softmodding gave me way too much artifacts) overclocked to 450/360 with the latest Omega Drivers.

1024x768 high details: 23 fps
1024x768 medium details: 25 fps
same config disabling shadows: 40 fps

I'm satisfied with these results for a lowly unmoddable 9800se and I may add the dropping the shadows IMHO is not affecting the visual impact of such a game: in addtion shadows in demo1 seems very harsh and not well blended with the rest of the graphics effects.
Tried the 4.9 alpha with no apparent result except poor text quality (overrides mipmapping control?)

System:
9800XT
AMD643000+
1 gig stick DDR
KV8-MAX3

ive been messing around with em a lot... but

AA, 4x, AF 8x, both texture and the other bar on high quality, and the tab set to Quality. in game, High Quality, 1024 768.... runs real smooth, 30-60fps until i hit multi monsters, multi monsters and gun fights can drop down to 10-20.

with everything on performance, and game settings of High Qual 1024... its pretty much smooth as can be, 30-60 frames.

I get 42 fps in timedemo 1 with my comp (in sig) in 1074x768 high quality, however, I also get the intermittent stuttering problem.

I finally decided 1024x768 2xAA High quality ran the best, although it still freezes completely for a second or two when something big happens, and I've got a major headache from the occasional slideshow. If someone would explain where the timedemo is I'd be able to supply an actual fps #.

I installed the 4.9 drivers with no improvements for my 9800 pro - BIOS upgrade to 9800XT and using stock settings.

I am running it on 1024 in high and I am experienceing great fps 40-60 until a monter, fire, or something blows up on my screen then its down to 10-20 and this is really hurting my gaming experience. WHY is this happening to everyone???

I have been running timedemo's on this settinga nd getting aroun 28-34 fps.

I bumped it down to medium at 1024 and I still get some lag when that one monster starts throwing fire balls at me but its not as bad.

When you turn on AA and AF - in the OpenGL properties for the card? I have read aa and af don't make much of a difference, but I will try ANYTHING to get ride of the lower fps when a monster show's up.

You can see my specs in my sig - I have found that timedemo demo1 is not a very good indicator for performance on my system, so you shouldn't rely on FPS results from that to make any hard and fast decisions. That said, I believe my system got and average of 26FPS on demo1, while in game, my FPS varies from about 15-60, hovering in the 35-40 area most of the time.... (1280x1024/Medium Detail/2xAA). It's also important to note that, if you haven't read it already elsewhere, Doom 3 is extremely playable at such a low fps. If I didn't turn on the counter, I wouldn't have guessed it was that low during actual gameplay.

I have a Barton 2500+ @2.2ghz 400fsb, 1 gig of ram, Sapphire X800 pro and I get 45 FPS in the time demo on high quality at 1024x760 with all the advanced options turned on. I'm not happy with ATI's performace in doom 3 considering I paid $700 canadian for this card about 2 months ago. I can play farcy at way higher settings. I can play farcry at 1280x1024 with everything on highest settings w 2x AA/ 16x AF and it feels much smoother than doom 3 on it's current settings. ATI better make Open GL run alot faster since DOOM 3 engine will be used in alot of games over the next few years. I'm dissapointed in ATI's performace in Doom since the Low end Geforce 600 beats it by alot in doom and thats not even a GT or Ultra. Sad but true I know

well i just ran the time demo 1 and it said 31 FPS

:EDIT: it seems that the first time i ran it that it was jerky but if i run it a second time then it is not jerky and will always give me 35 FPS so it must be caching stuff the first run through and then using them from the cache the second time through. :END EDIT:

i am running high quality mode at 1920x1200 with different tweaks..
in the demo it was choppy in some parts but i never see that in actual gameplay so i dont know whats going on there...

also i am using no AA but 16AF

RIG IN SIG!

:EDIT2: i just ran time demo 1 in 1600x1200 with everything else the same as before and the first run was 36 FPS but every run after that was 40 FPS and it did the same jerky first run then second excellent run as before :END EDIT2:

i get 60fps most of the time but when the screen gets cluttered it drops to about 35-40fps.oh yeah i run the game at 1024x768 with high settings too. using the ati cat 4.9 and viperlair autoexec.cfg as well. post the rest of the significant system specs so people can tell what else is a factor. i personally think ram is a huge factor. my specs

3.0@3.6
1gig mushkin pc3500
9700pro

42.5fps in timedemo1 with a 2.4ghz a64, 1gb pc3200, 9800pro @ 440/365

ive also done almost every tweak people have found, i was getting about 35fps in timdemo1 before really tweaking the game

okay. i'm about halfway through the game, i finally decided to sit down and benchmark the game.

my specs:

Athlon XP 3200+
Abit NF7 2.0
1gb dual channel (corsair value select)
9800 Pro 128M

HIGH IQ / 1024x768 / no AA / 8x AF
1st Run: 40.2fps
2nd Run: 41.4fps

I imagine that's pretty much the threshold of the 9800pro, seeing as a lot of people with 64bit chips and higher steppings of P4's can't really push the 9800pro past 45-ish without some tweaking. By the way, i'm running a fresh install of XP Home, 4.6 Catalysts, no tweaks whatsoever. I'm stuck on expensive dialup, so no 4.8's or 4.9 betas for now.

Here are some results I got on DOOM III timedemo1 (second run!!!):

I used Catalyst 4.8 & these tweaks:

seta image_usecache "1"
seta image_cachemegs "384"
seta image_cachemink "32768"
seta r_gamma "1.12"

800x600 MQ: 53.0fps / HQ: 50.3fps
1024x768 MQ: 43.8fps / HQ: 40.5fps
1280x1024 MQ: 30.9fps / HQ: 28.8fps

1024x768 HQ:
ani 0/aa 0 >>43.2fps
ani 8/aa 0 >>40.5fps
ani 8/aa 2 >>34.4fps
ani 8/aa 4 >>24.5fps

my system:

Abit NF7-S v2.0
1gig PC3200 (200FSB) dual-channel (2.5-3-3-11)

Somethings wrong there. I get 41fps (2nd run) with my system in sig, running 1152x768 medium quality, no AA/AF. It's about 35fps at high settings. Do you have AA/AF enabled? I'm sure with your 512mb extra RAM and better card than mine you should be getting much higher frame rates? I can play at 1152x768, High, 16AF 2AA fairly comfortably. I used the Humus tweak (well I think, there's so many), extracted all the PAK files and used the tweaks on the Inquirer.

There is no Geforce 600 either; if you meant the Geforce 6800 Non-Ultra it doesn't beat your card by a lot in Doom .

9800Pro
Barton @ 2.2Ghz
512DDR

No shadows

800x600 High Detail 4xAA 8xAF 55.7FPS
1024x786 High Detail 2xxAA 4xAF 45.2FPS

It gets slow sometimes at 1024 so I run it at 800x600 so it's at 60FPS nearly all the time.

My setup in my sig but at the default 1.8GHz for the mXP2400+

1024x768 High Quality

First Run: 26.8fps
Second Run: 31.0fps

After tweaking the shader

First Run: 35.8fps
Second Run: 46.2fps

tweak your interaction.vfp [site]

My PC has been running for a few days now. I also have winbar, two AIMs, AVG and deamon tools running...It would probably be higher if i restarted.

If I have time today I'll see what I get @ 2.4GHz with my mobile

edit: running 4.7 cats...and only the tweak mentioned above...added two lines...9800 pro at stock speeds and yes i have shadows enabled

EDIT: bumped my mXP to 2.4GHz...fresh reboot...I lost 2fps in the second run...wtf?

1280x1024 highQ, 2AA 8AF(CP forced), Humus tweak, cache-tweaks, DX9.0c, Cat 4.9b

I get 41FPS in timedemo1 rock solid.

1600x1200 high quality time demo 1 51 fps p4 @ 3.7 x800xtpe at stock speeds. cat 4.8's

your system has issues dood not the card..

i can get 73.3 fps at 1024 HQ on my x800 pro....58 at 1280x1024

40fps with 9700(360/285) n xp3200+ on 1024x768 high.
66fps with 6800(400/900) n xp3200+ on 1280x1024 high.

1024x768 averaging 42FPS on medium quality. System:

P4 2.66Ghz
1GB Ram
Radeon 9800 Pro 128MB version
Using the catalyst 4.8 drivers

Funny thing is, I ran a few timedemo's last night on the high quality setting, at 1024, and averaged 45FPS. Go figure, I thought for sure it would severely hurt my framerate as it is only the 128MB card.

Either way, the game is extremely playable throughout. No stuttering or issues. I'm very happy with this card, especially for the price!

I'm running the 9800 pro with an a64 3000+ and i can either turn the settings up to ultra or t he AA to 8x and it stays playable at 1024x768

I ran the time demo to test my replacement Sapphire 9800 Pro after I flashed it to an XT. Using cat's 4.8 I did the timedemo at 1280x1024 on HQ with all advanced options on other than AA. Got a score of 35.1fps.

Then I loaded FRAPS and benchmarked playing for about 30 minutes and my average fps was 52.7 with the same settings. Pretty pleased although I know that actual game performance seems to vary from the timedemo slightly.

This is pursuing the other end of the performance spectrum, but anyway...

What's the deal with R200 cards in Doom 3? The visual quality's pretty, but the performance is disconcertingly low. I don't think I'm wrong in observing that a Radeon 8500 is almost always faster than a Geforce3, yet in id's new baby they seem to run neck-and-neck. This is especially bizarre given that the NV20 series has to make two rendering passes under most circumstances (and three with colored lighting), yet the R200 needs to make only one. Is there an architectural problem that's hobbling things? Does ATI need to optimize shadow drawing? What gives?

I was just curious as to why, with such a nice rig like you have, and an SP-94 to top it off...why have you only OC'd your 3.0ghz P4 to a 3.2? I would imagine you could get much more out of it and get better performance in D3...

I haven't run the benchmark, but I am playing with 4xaf at 1024 / high quality and it looks amazing and plays smooth as a baby's butt. I have gone through about 4/10th's of the game, (3 levels past alpha labs 4) and I haven't ONCE encountered an area or situation where my framerate drops under 26 fps. 99.9% of the time it is 35fps or above (mostly 50-62). I am pleased and will not be upgrading this round. My comp is currently running at 253 fsb and 3.54ghz, 1gb mushkin black lvl 2 w/pat on and 2226 timings @ 202 fsb. The 9800 pro is running at 400/745.
