Doom 3 lockups on 9800pro

My 9800pro isn't overclocked at all, and playing at 1024x768 with medium settings is causing lockups at random. The first occured when i first tried to get into the first elevator you take. Reinstall game solved that one. Next time, I had gotten low health and decided to fast load... LOCK.... Then finally to which I am mostly addressing in when it sort of went into a small in game cutscene it all of the sudden just, froze. CTRL+ALT+DEL did nothing except bring up mouse. Alt+tab, useless. And all i coudl do was listen to the music.

I am assuminig this is a vidcard issue, right?

Oh and, I forgot to say, should i upgrade my CATS??? I havent upgraded since like 4.2 or 4.3 or something... maybe earlier...
 
Make sure your processor isn't overclocked. It froze on me, I returned everything to stock clocks and it works fine.

Even if its overclocked like 100 mhz just so that the ram gets a little boost??

I confused. You have 9600 pro in sig, is the 9800pro a true pro or a softmodded se? Also, yes, please for your father's sake upgrade your drivers. Upgrading CATS is illegal in most states (except Arkansas).

Ya missed it. OH and yes, it is a retail 9800pro straight from compusa. :D

Edit - how should i do this, do i uninstall the old ones in software manager first?

is your hard disk fragmented? Sounds totally silly but mine was at 15% and I defragged and I never had a problem anymore
