Well I just got done building my new pc recently and just installed Doom 3 last night. I didn't have much time to mess around with options (video, audio, etc.) and took it quickly on a test run. Was just curious if anyone can help me configure the settings so it looks half descent and runs well, my specs are in the sig, but I will post:

MSI Neo2 Plat
A64 3000+
1 GB Mushkin 3200 (dual channel)
BFG 6600gt OC

If anything is else needed, then please advise me.

Thanks in advance.

Thanks, but after reading through it, it just seems to do some basic stuff with Doom 3 online and multiplayer. I just want to know what to set AA to, Keep or take off Shadows, set it to High Quality, etc...

I think you'd be fine on high quality with shadows. Most people claim that the jaggies in D3 aren't too bad and don't bother with AA. Indeed, that's the way I felt.

Also, I think I remember HardOCP doing an article on various suggested settings for Doom3 depending on system specs? That was a while back.

First thing to do is go into the game, set the basic visual settings to High Quality. Turn on VSync. Set the resolution to 1280x1024. Then go into the doom3.cfg file. Turn the anisotropy down to 4x. (The game will run faster, and it still looks nearly as good as 8x) I don't use AA at all. I don't think it helps that much in D3, and the game runs so much faster without it. (In fact, I really don't use it at all, so I have it forced off in the driver.) Enable the cache, and bump it up to around 384MB if you have 1GB of RAM. (I have 2GB so I turn it up to 512.)

That works for me, and the game hardly ever drops below sync. Only when there are a ton of monsters flying around the screen. (And most of the time, not even then.)

(I'm at work, so I don't have the exact name of the cache settings, so you'll have to find them in there yourself, or look it up.)

Oh, and I have player shadow and the plasma lighting on, and it still doesn't slow down on my system with the settings I mentioned above.

Lol, when I first read the title I thought you were getting 3 fps in doom!

look online, but there is a setting in a text file in the doom 3 system folder, that allows you to change the amount of ram that it is allowed to use, and this increases performance hugely. sorry to not be more helpful on where it is, but now you know what!

Alright, well thanks for the hel so far. I guess I am hoping someone else with a similar setup that plays Doom 3 will chime in soon....I really don't care for messing with a program's files that much :(

Umm, my system is VERY similar to yours. Editing the .CFG file is necessary if you want to tweak the game. Or you can use the console, but the result is the same. The menu is devoid of many important options. If you want to go beyond what the menu allows, you'll either need to use the console or edit the file. It's not difficult at all. If you open it in Wordpad, you'll see that it's very simple to change things.
