Doom 3 artifacts... what is the source?

its an evga videocard that i bought just over a year ago... searching for warrantee information now. anyone know off the top of their head how long of warrantee they offer?

the warranty is up :( anyone know what could be causing the artifacts so i could try to fix it with a better heatsink/ramsinks?

give EVGA a call and see if theyll replace it anyway, they just started a lifetime warantee and im pretty sure it was 3 years before that..

is Doom3 only game thats goofy for you? ..or are all games messed up?

You say you are sure that it is a heat related problem, but you have 5 fans blowing on the thing and it is as stock speeds; what makes you so sure it's a heat issue? Did the problem arise while you were attempting to overclock the card? Have you ever overclocked it at all?

What are your idle/load temperatures? What drivers are you running? Is the artifacting apparent from the moment you turn on the game or only after you game for a certain period of time? Also, what other games do you have trouble with, if any?

Answers to these questions might confirm or dispel the overheating theory or suggest another problem entirely.

It looks like only the wall textures are effected... hrm... I wonder if a driver clean and re-install might do the trick for you... of the video drivers... ?

Have you tried removing the card and the plastic housing (a few tiny srcrews) and airing out everything with a can of compressed air. You've had it for over a year. I'd bet you could insulate your house with all that dust in there :D Seriously though, check that out.

That is a good idea... the front of the gpu sink fins gets "caked" on pretty thick and can block all air flow...

Check the temps, and make sure the heatsink is nice and tight making good contact. Try out a few sets of drivers to make sure it's not that. It's not overclocked so that rules out anything related to that. It could just be a dud card and you need to get it RMA'd. Shit happens, if the second one does the exact same thing (highly unlikely) then there is something wrong with your system.

when it artifacts, it's either heat or not enough power supply make sure you get 25A on 12V and a reputable brand name like: Antec, PowerPC & Cooling, Enermax, Fortron Source, etc

thanks for the replies guys, I'll try removing the card and using a can of air today. I am using the latest drivers from nvidia. So far I have only had problems with the doom 3 expansion and it has only happened on dark brown walls/dark red parts around doors. The temperature for the card seems to be about 70c load/ 50c idle.
Have an antec tru480 power supply, I'll check the rails on it to make sure it is doing ok. Never overclocked this card and currently have nothing overclocked in my system.
The artifacts seem to happen in the same spots everytime I play regardless of how long I've been playing and I haven't seen other artifacts. Could anyone suggest another driver version?

honestly, if its only that game in that spot, it sounds like some of the game files are messed up/corrupted. try to reinstall the game.

or a bad block of vid memory... I had that on one of my 6800's just a few blocks went out so only in really high texture games did i see any issues.

I opened up the case, took out the video card and sprayed the card and all of the case out with air and got some dust out. I've tried running the game 6 times in a row now and haven't had the artifacts in the same places so I think it fixed it. Thanks everyone for your suggestions :)

Save the dust in a bag. You never know if around winter time that can be used to insulate IHO J/K glad it helped. ;)

make sure your video cards heatsinks fan is running at speed its supposed to.. those stock nvidia fans from that era werent the greatest ..I have seen many go bad on those..

on one that I am currently messing with , I took the little thin plate off of top of fan and took the fan out and mounted a 40mm fan ontop of the stock heatsink ... kinda like the cheap mod peeps are doing with 7800's except using a smaller fan
