Beam me up, Scotty now has a whole new meaning as the partial remains of the famous actor were shot into space.

Nearly two years after his death, the man who made "beam me up" a household phrase has finally been beamed up himself.

you know if this becomes a trend with all those ashes flying in orbit the earth will start to have a visible ring around it.. and it'll become known as the 'ring of death'.. muah ha ha! ok maybe not.. :p

you know how much shit we have up there already?

Makes me wonder if we've experimented with sending our garbage into space.

That'd have to suck being an astronaut. Just floating around in space, then next thing you know a banana peel splats on your window. Or worse. A used diaper.

even a tiny chip of paint is extremely dangersous when it is going thousands of miles an hour. if a diaper hit the the space shuttle it could easy destroy it.

I think "beam me up" was made famous by Kirk, not Scotty as Kirk was the one saying it all the time.

But if Scotty wasn't "up" there first...then who is gonna beam Kirk?

and for the trash...send it to the sun...or Jupiter...would take a while to fill that!

I would donate everything I own to charity if in my lifetime I ever see a Legitimate Newspaper headline that Says something like "SPACE STATION DESTROYED BY DIAPER" .. Or "Used Diaper Kills 20 when it fell from space!"

I went to this as I live in NM. The launch site was probably about 150 miles from where I live. I'm really glad I went. Got to introduce myself to Wende Doohan and Suzan Cooper. Both are very nice ladies. I really went for Scotty, but it was really a kind of historic landmark as far as privately funded space missions go. The first rocket failed. This one didn't. The launch site was out in the middle of BFE though.

The garbage idea has been spoken a lot about... it would be cool if we could have a "dump" planet that we don't use.

Also, a banana peel would take off the head of an austronaut in space... they say that even the mist of urine in space (small fragment of a droplet) makes quarter size chips in the windshield of the shuttle. A marble would go clean through it.

shit happens.

Add more fuel to the sun, then it burns hotter and could cause warming problems. But then again we can just blame it on CO2 like we do now.

As far as ashes going to space I thinks that really cool. I remember reading that he wanted that done a year or so ago. Well I guess 2 years. Thats how I would want to go. Not burried on some lot, to have a subdivision built 20ft away from me, or burned and dumped on top of some dirt. At least in space maybe my dna floating in space could possibly knock up some alien.

Well hopefully Doohans ashes make it onto the surface of a planet, which is then hit with the genesis device ... hmm I guess he never mind melded with anyone before he kicked the bucket though.

No, but I'm wondering if all those broadcasts of Star Trek, floating through space, combined with the genesis device will have any affect.....

Lets hope so, if not another slingshot around the sun isn't out of the question.

He did, 72 miles was a successful launch. I think they needed 70 to consider it successful.
