Well recently got my 2005 FP in... barely any bleeding and no dead pixels from what I can tell. Going from a 21 inch Dell Trinitron monitor which when I bought it was the thing to get. Prob about 4 years old or so.

I thought I had a good monitor, but plug in the 2005 fp everything is so much nicer.. Color reproduction, dont see any ghosting, lighter, less heat, on and on.

Then I read what some people say are the boons of a CRT and color reproduction is listed. Maybe I had a gimp monitor but all the colors on my CRT looked so horrible (no matter how much I played with settings) compared to my new LCD.

I dont know, CRTs seem gimp to me, or maybe I havent encountered a good CRT yet and just thought mine was good.
 
I hear ya. I have 2 two year old Trinitron monitors (Dell P1130's) and the colors on the CRT's are no where as vibrant as my 17 WUXGA laptop display. Plus, the Trinitrons come no where even close to the sharpness on my LCD.
 
Gosh, Ogre, do ya think that maybe comparing a brand new monitor with a four year old monitor has anything to do with anything. That's what just kills me about the LCD fans....they go on and on about how great their new LCD is compared to their *old* CRT. Guess what. My new CRT blows my old 5 year old CRT away too!
 
I think I made mention to that.

But I was thought I had a top end CRT.. Those rebadged dells' Think mine is model #P110 or something.

And then my friend had a Sony G520 I believe and said it was a big leap as well. I mean this isnt some 200$ 4 year old KDS im comparing it too, this was the best you could buy within reason back in the day.
 
I couldn't believe how much better my Hyundai L90D+ produced colors compared to my Viewsonic, it was almost sad.....

Most modern CRTs only cover about 72% of the NTSC triangle. This is the same for modern LCDs. New LCDs are pushing to 92-95% with wide spectrum CCFL tubes. LED backlights are raising the bar above 100%.

Factor in phosphor burn on the CRT monitor, and it's not surprising that even a LCD at 72% will look better than an old CRT. New LCDs will distance themselves from even the best new CRTs in color performance.

Curved screen CRT.....maybe as old as Ice's grand-daddy. Speaking of sad, why the LCDs fanatics find this sort of comparison necessary is beyond me.

It's damn hard to find a neutral comparison between CRT and LCD, I researched for days and still ended up with blurry concepts. Guess I'm just gonna have to see and decide for myself through my own eyes.

Great idea cokane.....unfortunately finding a big screen, high-end CRT at a B&M is a rare as finding a unicorn. Good luck though!
 
Why are there so many of these threads? If you like the way it looks, thats the monitor for you. I for one am intensely happy that so many people are picking LCDs over CRTs, it means I can grab CRTs at rock bottom prices. More for me!

That viewsonic must be a shitty monitor(fish bowl), not even close to a top Mitsu/Nec/HP/ 22" true flat Diamondtron tube.

I have one of those HP branded Diamondtron 22", bought it new (manufactured 2004), costed about 600 euros, and i can say it is very nice. True black with realistic colors, wide gamut range etc...no LCD can come even close. Its very important to remember right calibrations when dealing with CRT monitors.

adjust the contrast or lower the brightness on that crt...maybe you'll get better color sats.

I like my LCD for space saving reasons. I like my LCD for sheer size. I like my LCD for its adjustability.

I liked my CRT for gaming. I liked my CRT at the time.

I no longer like CRT's but I understand those who do.

I couldnt have said it better myself, and most ppl apparently don't calibrate their CRTs correctly. I had a friend who had a crt for a few months, and after I went over there the other day, and calibrated it correctly, he was so happy with the difference. There are advantages and disadvantes to both. The perfect compromise, in my opinion, doesnt exist at this point, its just which of the two evils you are willing to live with.

It's just as likely that he just made a comparison for himself and feels happy about the big improvement. Nowhere did he claim that his CRT represents current technology. If you have a 7 year old VW Golf and are upgrading to a brand new BMW, wouldn't you also be happy about the improvement?
I have an old Philips 17" CRT monitor and I will most certainly compare it to my 2405FPW when it arrives here next week, but I won't be drooling and saying "look, TFTs are so much better than CRTs!!!!1111". I will be saying however "look, this new monitor is so awesome in comparison to my old one". Call me a LCD or TFT fanatic, I don't care.
