well atm i have a pretty good computer that can play all the games out right now.

but i dont know if i should get a 1920x1200 screen and a PS3 or a 1920x1200 screen and a new graphics card and more ram.


tell me which one you would pick!:confused:
 
Get the Display+GPU, you will spend less on games in the long run (assuming you don't buy new releases immediately).
 
PC. It just looks better. And you already know and love the controls.

Game consoles are full of compromises.
 
Depends. There's a lot of good games out for the PS3 that aren't available for the PC. So it really depends on how much you want to play those exclusives.

And the 260 ought to be able to handle a big monitor fairly well.

yes thats true the main ones i wanted to play was god of war,dantes inferno,bayonetta, and all those kind of games but then i started looking and ps3 pretty much has the same games coming out that PC does.

and i get all those mods and free dlc.


mmmm free dlc.
 
the ps3 will cost a lot more in the long run due to peripherals / games.

that said, i like owning both a console and a pc

Easy, PS3. Your existing computer has enough power to play any new game out there. By picking up the PS3 you get access to a whole new world of great exclusive titles. The new display and new GPU is not going to bring you into any new 'world', where the PS3 will.
 
I'm a PC guy.. but I'd say go for the PS3. Your current computer will last for a while with the way game development has been recently.
 
o yea and guys if i got a PS3 id get gamefly i doubt i would buy very many games if any at all.

You do know that near all the games on ps3 and 360 are coded at only 720p or less. You will not even scrap the capability of you display at those resolutions.

Lets see, 1280x720 or 1920x1080. There is massive disparity between the two and it is very noticable. Would you prefer 921600 pixels or 2073600 pixels. That isn't even the only factor involved. Console textures are incredible subpar to the ones used in PC, Load times are no less that 5 times slower than a moderately capable pc (seriously, I played borderlands with my buddy on his 360, each area took almost 15 times longer to load than my pc and we timed it), you can map key configs, macros, adjust sensitivities, access more buttons at onces, and utilize the precision of a mouse rather than use a pressure sensed joystick. You can apply mods, edit configuration files, plus use your display for every other function that a computer is used for.

If you have a decently capable computer already and all you have to do is purchase a videocard for ~$150, is there really even a reason to consider it?

i know about all the awesome things about pc but whats the point in that if there really isnt many new games?


iv pretty much played all 2007+ PC games i have only played a couple of ps3 games and its just such a nice change,BUT i still love my pc for all the things you mentioned.



and thats really the question:

wait for more pc games but have all the awesome things like mods and mouse+keyboard,etc.

or get a PS3 with lots of new games iv never played but no mods and a slow response controller and many other things.

Well you didnt say any of that in your original post. If you asked whether or not you should get a PS3 for its exclusives, I would have said go for it. However, as you know, most games are multiplatform these days with only a few being exclusive to either console so the waiting is not truly a factor.

For example, there are only a couple of games on consoles that arent PC that I would want. MGS4, FF13, and Uncharted 2. Seeing as there are only 3 games that I cannot play because they are console exclusive, I don't really consider that to be enough reason to dump 400 bux in a console when every other multiplatform game with benefit from the reasons I listed before (I haven't seen a port that was completely unplayable on PC, though im sure some will disagree).

If you want to buy a console, do it, but it is no longer a factor of which one being the better option. Clearly the PC is

so i suppose your right wouldnt be cool to dump 400 bucks for some games ill beat in a a month or 2 anyway.
 
Ive always been a pc guy. The games cost less, and you can upgrade and maintain your stuff.

On the other side, if I were to get a console PS3 would be the one. Cool games, bluray and not part of the Microsoft monopoly-machine

all the games run fine unless you want insane eye candy.. just overclock the card.. should be able to run 648/1404/1200 no problem..
 
If I was you I'd get a PS3, the games are pretty fun.

I have a somewhat similar system and I play most games perfectly.
If anything wait til Nvidia's next gen cards are released. By that time ATI's 5000 series would hopefully drop in price a tad, and you can get either at that time.

To be honest I dont see any games pushing my gtx260 that much right now. I have mine clocked to 702/1404/1188
Kinda pointless to me to upgrade at this time unless I buy a 30"

My single GTX 260 is displaying on two Asus 25.5" screens at 1920x1200. For gaming I use a single screen at 1920x100 with no issues.

I was looking to upgrade my video card about a month ago, but there really wasnt a good reason to. Unless the money is burning a hole in your pocket I'd wait for Fermi to shake up video card prices a little bit before upgrading.
 
A PS3 can't even run most games at 1920x1200. There are many games that it can't even run at 720.
 
Get the PS3. Your PC is plenty enough for games coming out in the foreseeable future, so having the PS3 opens up a whole bunch of PS3 exclusives + Blu Ray player + good media center if you are interested in that.

People talk about game resolution WAY too much when trying to smack down consoles. Not everyone needs games rendered in a full 2560x1600 resolution just to enjoy them. My friends and I game on a 84 inch projection screen in a theater I built. We never sit around playing PS3/360 going "Damn, look at the PIXELATION on that fence, it makes me want to puke!"
 
After looking at your PC in your sig, I'd say get 2 more gigs of ram and then the PS3 and a monitor with 2 sets of HDMI/DVI inputs so you can use them both...

...or save some more and go 3 screens and Eye/N-finity muwhahaha

I like my 360/PS3 but I'm firmly standing in the PC side. Things like MW2 on my rig with a 280 in it all maxed out is just nicer on the eyes.

It's just preference, thats going to largely be based on what you're used to seeing, if you're a PC gamer with a good rig then console look like utter crap. If you're a console gamer or a PC gamer with a slow PC then of course it doesn't look so bad because you're used to things looking rubbish.

Its not really about console gamers just being acclimated to rubbish. So many PC games have horrible art direction, bad lighting, monotone texture, and can experience slowdown even on decent hardware (I game a lot on a GTX260 as well as my 8800GT). For the most part I prefer the consistent visuals of a console game like Rachet and Clank, Uncharted 2, or whatever to playing more games on the PC at a higher resolution.

for multiplatform games like mw2, sure they look better on the pc.

Pretty much every argument people have made so far can be summed up in one question:

Are there PS3 exclusives that you'd like to play?

If so, PS3
If not, no PS3
 
Personally I would go with PS3 and monitor. I'm almost in the same situation as you, just not enough cash on hand. My order is going to be Monitor->PS3/Vid card. unsure which will be first yet though for ps3 or vid card.

People saying that you won't be using your monitors potential because games are 720p and upscaled, that's not really true. I can definitely notice the difference between my friends ps3 on his 1080p set and my other friends 720p set with the same games, plus you'll be using your comp with the monitor so that's not a loss there. There's a few native 1080p psn games that are cheap and somewhat fun also.

Bluray is a definite added bonus which will be nice for viewing movies on your new monitor, as bluray drives are still fricken expensive as hell for the pc.

I plan on using my 4850 512mb card for a little while after I purchase a monitor, your 260 should definitely fair better than my card at that resolution and I'm not expecting to make many sacrifes in game.
