Ok, so I got my dad a Curtis DVD5028 5.1 DVD Player for Christmas, and I am now trying to hook it up. Is it even possible to make just the TV's noise go to the receiver for the 5.1 sound? I just don't understand how to get it to work.

It might be.............. To be honest with you, I have no idea what this Curtis thing looks like, and I can't seem to find an offical curtis website.

Anyway, if your TV has an RCA stereo output, then you can connect that to an RCA stereo input on the "receiver". To do this, you would need a stereo RCA cable. Simple as that ^_^ (you also might have to mute your TV, but no biggie).

Now, this will only give you TRUE stereo (left and right). Depending on what your "receiver" can do though, it may be able to send the stereo signal to all 5 speakers.

~Hope this helps

If it's a fairly cheap DVD player, it probably won't even have inputs. Most don't. If you definitely know it has inputs, you should be able to run 2 RCA cables (red and white) from your TV to the RCA inputs on the DVD player, select them as audio input on the DVD player, and audio from the TV will be played through the DVD player into whatever speakers you're using.
Whether or not the DVD player will upmix stereo sound is another question altogether, though...
