Right now, I've got two sound cards on my computer. I've got the one that is onboard with my Asus P4P800 SE (ADI AD1985 SoundMAX 6-channel CODEC, Audio Sensing Technology,support S/PDIF out interface). I've also got a Creative Labs Soundblaster Live: Value card hooked up too. I disabled the onboard card, because I figured that the soundblaster live card was better quality. But I'm not so sure. Is it a waste of computer space and power to be running that card? Or should I keep it going because the difference is worth it? Or what?
 
Toss it, unless you care about EAX in games.

Anyways, if you don't notice an increase in sound quality (which you probably shouldn't), then all it could really do is cause IRQ conflicts in the future if you add more PCI cards.
 
The onboard sound by most recent mobos (including yours) are actually really good, but at a slight cost of performance. You could do a performance, and a quality test if you want, but the onboard would probably have more features than the Live:Value, as you said in your post. I suppose the onboard is better than the Live, but it is subjective, so do some tests for yourself to see what you think.
 
I think he's had it with the tests and needs an excuse to get rid of it ;)

I've got an AD1985 in my SK8V FX-53. It sounds better than the AD850 in my SK8N.

Both of these suck the ass of bloated goats compared to my old A7N8X-Deluxe. I miss SoundStorm, especially in Games, Music, and Sage. I have yet to hear anything that does audio as good as SoundStorm did, and am very pissed that I can't get ANY kind of card that does DD 5.1 on the fly, like my old board did. I also miss the little blue Dolby Digital light every time my computer output anything to the digital receiver. It sounds trivial, but it was one of those things... Environmental effects also sounded better, and MP3's sounded so good that I couldn't tell them from the real thing.

I also have the SB Live! Value, and it's sitting on my bedroom floor. It's going to stay there for some time. The live takes up too many resources, is PCI slot cranky, and didn't do SPDIF output very well at all.
