I can't thank the users and HardOCP enough. This is definitely the best resource on the net for LCD info. I have read dozens of sites, but only the people at HardOCP are talking about them to such an extent! There is still a need for a nice website dedicated to LCDs and it has yet to be created :)

Here's what I narrowed it down to. I'll just list them all and try to recall why I hesitate to choose it:

LG 1970HR - No info/pro reviews on the net. Scaling probem?
LG 194WTX - No info/pro reviews on the net. No forum buzz
LG 203WT - Is this an old model now? Quite a few reviews on the net. Can't recall any negatives...?

Samsung 940BW - Probably the best overall 19" WS @ its price
Samsung 205BW - On sale $309 CAD at TigerDirect...backlight/blacks anything to worry about?
Samsung 940BF - Just a few ms faster than the B model...same specs?
Samsung 931C - I don't understand 97% colour gamut yet the spec says 16.2m like all the rest

Firstly I would use it for movies. That's when it would really shine for me. I play games too, but only occasionally now.

If I were to get a WS, would 4:3 aspect movies appear with black bars on the sides?

Is a 19" widescreen too small as a widescreen?

If I end up getting a WS which of the ones I listed do you think I should get? The widescreens I have listed are within $50 of each other.

More stuff:

Do DVDs even "look" better on an LCD? Is there some psychovisual thing happening?

What's this I hear about some DVDs looking like junk after they're put in full screen? So they're upscaled from 720x480 to whatever your monitor res is...I don't understand what's happening when you switch resolutions on a LCD...the pixel size can't change...
Must your monitor be running at some sort of resolution that's a multiple of the DVD?

I am completely happy with my 940bw and it is not small at all to me. I really enjoy the widescreen especially for games, movies and multitasking. I say go widescreen. I would say the size is based on your pc (if it can run what you want at native res) and on your wallet.

19INCH Widescreens are too small. Go for a 20inch +.

The Dell 2007FPW are great LCDS, I suggest you go for one of them.

i have the LG L204WT it looka great and is very fast
great for games no ghosting great color

Likely between the 205BW or L204WT (if I can find somewhere that knocks another $90 off like the Samsung). I'd like to read more about the 205BW :)

Should have mentioned the ones I listed are in my price range. The L204WT is usually $400 cdn

YEA I HEARD THE LG L204WT IS SOLD OUT EVERYWHERE
I PAID 309 DOLLARS FOR MINE AT CC

They are good TFTS but they use a TN FILM panel, which is not the best of the bunch.

A Dell 2007FPW, VX2025 or a NEC will do a much better job.

But, if you really really want one of them, go for the Samsung.

I think I've just been convinced out of buying an LCD. I can't take the colour reproduction difference!

You won't find the 205bw at Tiger Direct for a while. All their GTA stores are sold out. My plan is to call Staples tomorrow to see if they'll pricematch tiger. They're the only big retailer to sell them and their website price is outrageous.

ive had a 19'' dell CRT for about 5 years and just got the LG 204wt, the color is MUCH better on the LCD, i dunno if its the higher res or what, i was using 1280 on the CRT, but im 100% pleased, i see much more in games and have a better working area with the WS, i would recomend buying one! the dell is overpriced, ive seen that and the LG, the colors are the same or its so close u cant tell, the dell had more banding issues than the LG, the LG is a new type of 8bit TN panel. the dell also costs 100$ more, LG has a 3 year quick swap warr.

In my opinion, all 19" LCD are junk, as they are 0.29 mm dot pitch, vs. the good 20" :LCD that is 0.255 mm dot pitch.

The samsung 204B is a 6 bit TN panel, your eyes get tired after a while, as only 1 light is on per pixel vs. 2 light.

The right thing to do is get a VP2030b from Viewsonic.
